If you personally know them, and they aren't someone you found somewhere on Kik or whatever, then I don't think there is really anything wrong with asking them out that way. I've been asked out to plenty of dates that way, and it never bothered me at all. If it really bothers her, maybe she's a bit too uptight.

Some people find it okay and more adorable (If you make a huge fuss about it and stuff) but at least 90% of girls don't like that. It means more if you go up to them face to face because it shows you have courage and that you love them that much, you'll go out of your comfort zone (Well, for some guys anyway). It's a much nicer feeling to be asked out in person.
