Alright, so for Christmas I got a Xbox one, and my father a PlayStation 4. Everyone at my school is constantly saying how the Xbox one is a rip off and would way rather spend their money on a Ps4. This drives me insane because I'm surrounded by both on a daily basis, and find that the Xbox is better in nearly every area except gameplay itself (they are about equivalent). Do any of you have an opinion or legitimate reason why one is superior? And if so, have you actually used both?

The PS4 sounds much superior, from things I've heard. Xbox One is more expensive, for a (practically) DVR in a gaming console.
PS4 just sounds like a well done imitation of the 7th gen Xbox 360. With better graphics, and etc.
I never played either one, but I gather a PS4 is a better console.

Oh dear! People are losing their shit over which piece of plastic is superior to another piece of plastic! Whatever shall we do?!?
The way people debate these two consoles, or really any video game consoles from the past few generations pisses me off. It's so annoying.
Honestly, the only reason I can see the Xbox being better, is because of it's recording and streaming utilities; and really that's only useful if you're an entertainer on YouTube or Twitch or something, who will use that on a regular basis. PS4 is a cheaper option with the same games and nearly identical graphics. If I were forced to take one of these two boxes, it'd be the latter.

Okay first of all, the same gameplay statement the OP made is absolute bullshit. The xbox one gameplay on most games is 720p whereas the PS4 is native 1080p --> Quite a difference. While I haven't actually got one myself I have taken my PS4 round to a friend who has the one and we both gamed on each others console so I can say I have technically played both.
The PS4 is much more centred around gaming with delivering the best quality of games. Whereas the Xbox One is much more of a family orientated console design to be an 'all in one' entertainment system which has had a graphical impact on games.
Plus with an average of 500GB the console becomes full as 380GB due to the amount of UI storage which is kinda silly but never mind. The PS4 500GB roughly comes to 408GB give or take a few so the PS4 does have some more HDD space.
The Xbox connect always being on unless you change the power option isn't something I like I mean it kinda makes you feel like you're always being watched.
Like I said the PS4 and Xbox One is different with one more focused on gaming for a hardcore gaming audience while one is more focused on sitting in a family living room.
Plus I'm sure there is some reason why the PS4 has out sold the Xbox One....Just saying :D

Also, I much prefer the feel of the PS4 controller.

PS4 all the way, it just totally dominates the xbox one in all fields.

The only thing that would even make me take a second look at the Xbox is the opening games. If you're not a shooter fan as I am not, you have pretty much jack shit on PS4 right now (especially if you are also more like me and hate racing and sports games too). I have Knack cause it came as a Christmas gift and it's just boring. Waiting for Thief right now. But the game line-up problem will change soon and then everything tips in PS4's favour again.
It's basically up to what you want. I want a gaming console, and the only other things that interest me (blu-ray, netflix) come on both systems. Not the most accurate of metaphors, but I see Xbox as the mac of this gen of consoles. It isn't so much to that degree, but in comparison, that's how I see it. There are legitimate reasons to get the other system, but as a plain and simple gamer, I can't help but choose the PS4. And yeah, $400 is eh, but when you start hitting $500 you've lost me. The only thing I'll really buy in the electronics department that is more expensive than $300 would be a computer. But I'm also a student so that's expected.

I'm tired of the same old tired debate. when can we learn that this is just a matter of who likes what? It is just that freakin simple. It doesn't matter which system is better. Its simply a matter of which you like better.
