View Full Version : Why is this?

Hey guys, I just got a new audio cable for my headphones (The cord is detachable, thank god) and compared to my old one which was silver/tin plated and was rubberized where as my new one is gold plated with a nylon cord; the bass boost is much more powerful on my laptop than with my old cord. The bass boost didn't seem to work too well but now I think I may have to tone down the bass a bit
I'm curious as to why this is.

You're just getting a higher audio fidelity with gold plated audio cable. Has nothing to do with boost in level, just an overall higher fidelity. Though, I would worry more if the focus was more on the bass and not on the overall mix (depending on what you listen to, of course and the type of headphone you're using).

right now Im using Nakamichi NK780 headphones http://www.nakamichi-usa.com/index.php/headphones-list/fashion-headphones-nk780
which are quite impressive considering I only paid $15 (plus tax) for them. what I had before these were to be frank; not too great.
this is the song I listened to where I noticed the bass difference.

To be honest I really like the headphones n=Nakamichi makes, they're just as good if not better than beats but cost a fraction of the price. I've had my set for nearly a year now.

I would highly suggest saving up for a better pair of headphones. While I don't have any experience with Nakamichi, I DO have plenty of experience with a wide variety of other headphones. My recommendation would be a pair of Sennheiser HD 558's, which will definitely give you the bass kick you want but also be subtle enough to give you a good mids and highs.

I still get pretty great mids and highs, but the reason my Bass is so deep is because of my Razer Audio 7.1 virtual surround driver EQ and calibration need to be tinkered with. Plus I also want rugged headphones that give me a detachable cord (I travel a lot) These offer what I need (Mine have taken quite a beating but still look lightly used, no scuffs, noticeable scratches, or rough patches) I'd suggest finding a sears that sells them or ordering a pair on line and testing them out for yourself, but make sure you have a good aux cable on hand because the cord you get with them isn't the best in the world.
