Knee high socks with track uniform?

What do you think about the looks of wearing knee high socks with my track uniform? See attached photo. They are comfortable and some teammates also do that.
My girlfriend says they look good and go well with my shorts. She suggested wearing a pair of ankle socks on top, she likes this layered look and it improves cushioning.

If you're only wearing it during practices and meets, does it really matter? It's not like you're trying to make a fashion statement then. If you just walk around all day like that though, I suppose it looks fine.

I also wear them when I go jogging in the park or sometimes when I'm with my girlfriend, bc she likes my gear very much.

You were right, I was wearing them at our last track meet and friends also liked this combination. They were comfortable as a second layer, I like its fabric. I think I will keep on wearing them. My girlfriend also likes them, but don't you find it a bit weird that she asked me to date her in my track gear tomorrow evening?
