I was wondering if any of you could offer up some help, I wanted to know what kind of negative effects non "hard drugs" have on people. This would include marijuana, alcohol, ecstasy, valium, etc. There is a lot of grey area about what is considered a "hard" drug or not, but basically anything besides like meth, heroin, crack, cocaine.

This topic is really under alot of discussion...
Since you didn't specificaly said negative health effects; i'll start with the obvious.
For example, drinking and driving causes alot of accidents and deaths, so would you concider that a negative effect?

Well alcohol certainly has a lot of negative effects. It damages your liver when consumed in excess, and it is essentially toxic to every tissue in your body. It also causes people to do horrendous things that they wouldn't otherwise do, and causes addiction. Valium is more or less the same. It can be very addictive for some people, and can impair your judgment and ability to drive. You can also fatally overdose on it, especially when combined with alcohol. The jury is still out with ecstasy. Some scientists say it can cause brain damage, others disagree. But most people agree that doing it often enough can cause problems for you based on how it affects your serotonin levels. As far as marijuana, there are not too many dangers associated with it. But smoking anything damages the silica of your lungs, and studies show that young adolescents who use marijuana heavily can have permanent cognitive impairment.

Cannabis doesn't damage the neurons even with heavy use. The reasons for the impairments in memory and learning are not yet understood. The impairments are also only temporary, except in young adolescents, where it is not known how long the effects last even after the discontinuation of use.

Hard drugs will cause harm to others. Depending upon the harmfulness the drugs are divided into two types such as soft drugs and hard drugs. Many countries will not allow Hard drugs. Every drug will contain some alcohol content in it. In hard drug the alcohol quantity is more. Due to this, Body lost its sense. The Even nervous system will also effected. So it causes death.

Just a point.
Valium (Diazepam) is a benzodiazepine. It's a hard drug, because BWD (Benzodiazepines' Withdrawal Syndrome) can be as hard and as life-threatning as opiates' (e.g. heroin).

Thanks for all the pointers! I'll keep all this in mind. Except for that guy who said every drug has alcohol in it? Someone needs to inform him that alcohol itself is a drug.
