Hi all,
I've sometimes drink with mates in moderation but we have never got the discussion of how we tolerate alcohol.
Im 15 years old 5ft 8 and 80kg. I usually start feeling the effects on my head after a beer (1.5 standard drinks)
Is this normal or a bit too "Weak"

Your body's ability to tolerate alcohol is going to come from a few things, some of which you can control, and others you can't.
Part of what you can't control are your genes and natural body's ability to process the alcohol. You have a pretty solid body mass (unlike me being skinny and a little underweight) which would help you take a larger amount of alcohol.
If you avoid drinking on an empty stomach, you'd be able to take more alcohol as it won't be absorbed into your body as quickly.
As always, don't over-drink, and remember to drink plenty of water during and after consuming alcohol, as it can seriously dehydrate and harm your body.
It's not abnormal to feel effects even after a beer. If your face goes red, your body warms or your heart pounds, it's actually a healthy effect! Your body does this to help expel the heat from the intake of alcohol. If you haven't been drinking for a long time, or don't drink in excess, it'll take you time to build immunity to alcohol.
P.S Being a lightweight saves you money at the bar when you get older!

That's good!
I've never passed out or thrown out from drinking either. I wouldn't call that social drinking at all, it's disgusting!
A headache can be a symptom of dehydration, so I'd say keep yourself hydrated before, during and after you drink.
Instead of destroying a bag of chips or whatnot, I've come to quite like seedless grapes to munch on too :P

Why'd you have to sneak out for olive oil and bread? Haha :P
Yeah, when I was just starting out, I'd go to darker places so my red face wasn't too obvious, and munch on A LOT of food. It also helps I'm forever hungry and my stomach is never full that I can eat all night
Still though, it only takes a little binge drinking to get over binge drinking for good. Not a pretty sight at all

I've hardly drank, but on new years I did, I felt a little warm and a little dizzy after a beer. After two I felt even more so, and just a little more, sort of, animated. Then I had two rum & cokes and I was feeling pretty good after that.
I'm sure my tolerance would be a hell of a lot higher if it was legal for me to go to bars with friends. Fucking united states drinking age being 21. It's literally ridiculous.

My tolerance level is pretty high for my age I would say, purely because I've drank since I was your age and I'm 19 now. How fast the alcohol hits you depends on a few factors. The most obvious 1 is if your drinking on a full or empty stomach, your tolerance and your body mass in general, a fat guy would be able to take in more than a really skinny guy. I would just say, slowly let your tolerance get higher but let it get too high or you'll have a hard time trying to get drunk lol. It would take me about 5/6 beers to start feeling it.

Mine is high too, but I've always been that way. I don't drink beer, so I don't now how many I'd have to drink, but I've drank a small bottle of vodka by myself and not felt a single thing after.
Be careful with starting out so young. Having a high tolerance isn't nessicarily a good thing.

Its too late for that now haha. I know, I know I've done some amount of damage to myself but I know theres people out there who drink ALOT more so I just try to justify to myself by thinking "its okay, everybody does it"

Lol, my bad, I meant that for the original poster.
And, "it's okay, everybody does it". That's hilarious and probably really unsafe, but I don't drive the speed limit so who am I to judge? (:

I know but I love drinking, I'm not an alcoholic or anything just to clear that up. Well there you go! i suggest you do drive to the speed limit though, you could end up with points on the license!

I don't think there is a 'normal' but I'll give you something to compare it to, and then you can decide..
I generally start feeling the effects after 3-4 shots of vodka at 37.5%, so if my maths is right, that's 2.7-3.6 standard units (UK).
I'm almost 6ft and weigh 73kg

*facepalm* Okay. I find it weird that nobody here has acknowledged the fact that this kid is 15 years old and drinking beers. The legal drinking age for US is 21, Australia and the UK 18. A child consuming alcohol is against the law.
Even after the age of 18, your brain is not quite fully developed and the consummation of alcoholic beverages can disrupt that development and cause both short-term and long-term harms to yourself. This can result in "lasting impairments in brain functions such as memory, coordination, and motor skills." (helpguide.org) Yeah, those "effects on your head" you're feeling are your brain cells dying a painful death. xD If this isn't enough to alarm you, being a dude alcohol can also cause sexual dysfunction. -_-
It's sad the amount of children that drink because they think it's cool or simply to impress their friends. Drinking beer has no health benefits and is no more enjoyable than downing a coke. Unless drinking heavily, getting dizzy and nauseous, and having a raging hangover the next day is your idea of fun.

I'm a lightweight which I'm happy about because I don't have to spend as much on drinks and I'm not poisoning my liver as much as a person with a high tolerance.
