I think that you should add an award system if there is not one already. Users will be able to earn forum awards by various tasks. Each award icon will be shown below there username when they post.
Thoughts?

Maybe for amount of posts or something a long those lines. On my gaming forum we have awards for "FPS gamer" and "MMORPG" gamer. So you could have things that correspond with this forum.

Well here you get different post faces and titles for amount of posts.
I found myself striving for orange, then yellow and now green.
My next goal is earning a custom user title after 6 months membership
I'll probably have my 5000+ post face by then too at the rate I post lol.

Oh cool. Well I guess you could come up with other awards to earn.
Heres a quick look of how some of mine look

Yeah. I would show you how it looked but they aren't showing up for some reason with the theme I have installed.

An interesting idea.
But we're a help site for teens, not a popularity contest.
As such, we strive to provide primarily for those who use the Help & Advice forums, the very forums which make up the basis of our site.
I, personally, do not see any way of incorporating this while not hindering this mission. Though perhaps you have some ideas for fitting awards for those sections as well?

Maybe not those awards, but awards for best answer in H&A. Like "Great helper", "Boys/girls/both helper.
You know, however I can almost see it being abused slightly unless it is controlled, with people getting upset by not winning awards.

I agree with this in that the regular members here don't really have any status symbols making them seem more important. I'm on another forum that has a bit more of that, and it seems that those who have special this and that, are kinda snobby and less approachable.

Well I mean, the awards can be about anything. Like said below you could have them for "best helper" or things a long those lines. I think it would help people stand out better for what they are good at on the website.

We sorta had this before with a reputation system where people gave you rep by giving good answers and well a lot of people abused that system and the mods took it off.

With awards only admins can give them out so I don't think that this could get abused.

Why would you possibly get an award for helping people on a help and advice website? That's pretty much the point of the site. I would think knowing that you may have helped someone in a difficult situation would be good enough of an award in itself. In fact, helping others (or at least attempting to) has actually helped myself with confidence issues.
If someone was to have an award icon on their profile or avatar, does that mean we should value their opinions more than others who do not? That doesn't seem fair at all. In fact, it sounds a bit counterproductive, and may lead to people feeling like their opinions don't matter. Everyone's opinions here should matter.

It doesn't have to be for helping people, that was an example. Awards can be made for anything and it's full customizable. This is just a suggestion or an idea for the forum.
Wonder.

An award for people who win one of the various categories in the VT Awards maybe? I don't really remember the awards much from last year, but I believe that they don't really get anything besides a mention as a winner, correct? Not that there really needs to be anything for winning, but it'd be cool to have a little icon to have to give a few people a little extra pride every once and a while knowing that they won something. Just a thought. I could see this being something interesting and fun, just as long as it's not used for something like "best post" or anything like that.

It did, totally get abused. But although I can see similarities, I don't feel it will have the same sort of abuse. It would be far more like: You are not good enough, you didn't get that award, which is totally against what this site is about

As said above, it would be different type of abuse

Agreed, but it is almost like just acknowledging that they are helping out well. Nothing against those who don't, they may not visit as often or something.

I can see both sides of the argument. I can imagine the snobbishness that Kashmir was talking about, and that is a definite

I will be totally honest, I don't see it working without there being some sort of problem. So my personal opinion is that it is not a good idea for this site
