does anybody know how to bake cookies so that they stay chewy? Everytime I make cookies they get hard fast.

Depending on the ingredients you put in, you may be baking them for too long. Do you follow a recipe or do it based off of someone else? I've come to notice that when you bake cookies you have to sort.of underbake them because when they're exposed they get harder. I don't follow a time though I just check to see if they look ready :P

my mom says it depends on what type and percentage of fat you use.
not exactly sure of how it works, but butter and either oil or shortening and how much of each makes a difference in if they stay soft or not.

As Scars up there said, you have to take them out before they're fully cooked. Good rule of thumb is when they start to look golden-brown around the edges. Not dark, just getting there. Reason being, they will continue to cook a bit from the heat of the pan, and their own heat, so taking out when they're perfect will cause them to be overdone once they're cooled.

Also, keep them covered, that should help some.
