View Full Version : Reduced wait time for name changes.

I honestly don't see a reason for the name change wait time to be six months. Maybe half it? I understand that it should stay the same for the sake of recognition and easy identification, but I think that's a bit excessive.

Don't get me wrong, I probably won't be changing MY name for a while, but I'm pretty sure people will be upset to find that the spelling error in their new name is more than noticeable.

If you have a slight spelling error in your username, feel free to contact an Administrator and they may be willing to fix it for you.

I think the six months is fair. Any less than that and it would get too confusing.

That wasn't a great example, but I mean that any change that a person may want to make in their name can't be changed for half a year. Maybe in hindsight they think the name is stupid or something and they want to annul the decision, but that ain't gonna happen.

I don't see how it would get all that confusing.

6 months is a very reasonable time :D

With all the user name changes I have seen in just four
months of being here I'm glad it's not less time than 6 mos.
And I'm glad that when you put the courser over the new name
it shows what the old name was. Me not like change.

I think six months is a pretty fair wait period. If you feel that strongly about changing your username before that then PM me or val and we'll talk about it. We're not all that unreasonable :P

What about adding a timeperiod where the username can still be changed? and then after that is when the cooldown period sets in.

Im thinking a 1 hour period where people can change the username is more than sufficient.

What do you mean? Like a clock that counts down to when your username can change or a period of time in which it can be changed? i.e usernames can be changed on blah date at blah time, if so that would be confusing for some and moreover annoying. What system we have in place right now is a good and fair system.

Nobody needs to change their name more than once every six months and if you do and have a good reason then yes, you can PM an admin as like Mike said, they aren't unreasonable. I had my name changed twice out-with the time period, one was for fun and the other one was a more serious matter.

If you're suggesting a clock that says when one can next change their username, that would be good however, I remember a thread where ImCoolBeans commented in and he said he looked and could not find a mod to at to VB to allow this to happen.

Wonder.

I think he meant that it would still be every six months, but after you change it you have a one-hour window in which you can change it again in case there's a spelling error or something like that. After the one hour though, you're stuck with it for six months.

This is probably the most beautiful idea ever. Is it possible to implement though?

No no no, I mean after you change your username you're givven a certain amount of time where it can still be changed afterwards before the cooldown sets in.

So if you have a typo you want to fix, you can go right on ahead and fix it. Same thing applies for a last minute change of mind.

Well for typos you can just speak to an admin.

If you spell it wrong, or are having second thoughts about your new username, just PM me about it, or Val too. I don't think I've ever said no about something like that. A mod for that would just take up RAM on the server, it's unnecessary. You can't abuse that, but if it's something like that then it's only fair.

I think taking into account the fact that you can PM an admin to correct spelling mistakes, There is no need, I think 6 months is fair.

I've had my username changed twice before the actual time. The admins are pretty fair people and won't bite your head off for asking for having second doubts after a change or for spelling and grammar.
