Politicians are inherently evil [Agree/Disagree]
While individuals base their politcal believes on statistics, logic, or feelings, politicians base their's on money, furthering their agenda, or getting votes.

While that is certainly stereotyping, I will agree most of them, including our current President, don't really care much about the people. I think others, like John Boehner, are simply weak and won't stand up for their principles.
However, I would argue that humans are instinctually self motivated, so almost anybody put in a position of such tremendous power would have trouble keeping with their principles.

Agree, 95% of politicans don't care about the people.
Just corporate interest, personal agendas, party ideology, getting a big check and religious beliefs

I disagree completely. Politicians are people voted by the people to represent the people. There actions are only a reflection of the people who elected them. No person is inherently evil, such a person cannot exist. If politicians are illogical, then the people who voted for them are also illogical. If politicians are greedy, then the people who voted for them are also greedy. That is how a Republic of any short works.

Not all politicians are corrupt. Most are, but the ones who aren't, are the ones who're oppressed. I say out with the establishment Republicans (like Boehner and McCain), and in with the "Tea Party" Republicans (like Cruz and Ryan).

It is a tremendous burden to put such power on one man's shoulder and expect he won't fall to the temptations. You can shorten the term before he becomes harmful, like some Italian merchant republics did, but that leader requires more power. My solution is decentralizing the government.

In an ideal system the people vote for them. I think as a whole they are influenced by corporations too much

Ok, hold the phone not all politicians are bad but you are right, most politicians are very and easily influenced by their own party and special interest groups such as for example the NRA. They need to THINK FOR THEMSELVES ONCE IN A WHILE. I'm pretty sure the country would be in a much better shape than it is now if they did.

I don't believe politicians are inherently evil, there are some bad but a majority are good. You'll find that in any profession. I just think you're an anarchist.

People are inherently evil [Agree]
Anything beyond that is abuse of power, as is expected. Politicians are people just like us, they don't pass a corruption exam or whatnot.
The real problem, or better, obstacle, are greater parties that, with their momentum, have greater freedom in abusing the system. Such obstacle that smaller and more honest parties must overcome. But, when they overcome, what stops them from abusing as well?
Damn, I should stop being such a cynic.

I think some just want to help out. Yes, there are plenty who are corrupt and selfish, but not all are evil.

I'd say that's simply way off. I'm not familiar with American politics, however, it's an exceedingly difficult and pressuring job for an individual to be a politician. People claim they are corrupt and doing this for this group and then that for that group and so on, when, I truly believe that most of them are doing it because that's what they believe is the best thing to do. Sure, some are corrupt, some will be influenced by corporations and some will act in their own self interest: however, the majority - in most Western, developed countries - I believe are simply doing what their political beliefs dictate they should.

Most politicians being evil? No, not really. No one is inherently evil. And even if they do a lot of "evil" things, I do not think that there trying to be evil. I think that most people in positions of power just try to do the right thing. However, a combination of lack of political apathy from there constituents, pressure from lobbyists/PACs/corporations, trying to please ALL of there constituents, following a person(s) higher than them instead of doing there own agenda, and competition from other politicians make them do corrupt things.
I think a lot of people do not realize that being a politician is an EXTREMELY stressful and dirty career with people dogging them all the time for the littlest thing they do, and of whom those people the politician in question is to represent to there best, in the little time they have. Most politicians are generally nice people outside of politics, but, hey, corruption's a bitch.

Very good point. Humans are instinctively self motivated creatures. "The best laid paths of mice and men often go awry" ~ John Steinbeck
Those who have the best intentions at the beginning of their political careers may get knocked off track along the way -- it takes a very special kind of person to see through everything they stand for when there is likely about 40-50% of the country against you and what you stand for. I wouldn't go as far as saying that all politicians are evil, that is some pretty serious stereotyping, but as a collective whole I think the ones we have in place now are pretty rotten.

Did I miss something? When did politicians become aliens lacking human brains and human psychology?
Really I can't think of anything nice to say other than GTFO.
People as a whole are capable of anything. How much depends on the individual. The politicans we have are a reflection of the society and culture we live in. End of story.

Proof politicians are the lowest of the low. I am studying to get my engineering degree. In the UK the requirements for this course are only D's, extremely easy to get onto this course. I was talking to an MP, he said "i always wanted to be an engineer, but my grades where to low so I went into politics" See, the reason all the big wigs make retarded decisions, is because they are thick as two short planks.

The vast majority of politicians actually have a pretty good degree and grades, aside for that I'd rather have my MP as friendly, knowledgeable and passionate- not just a piece of paper saying he got an A in his English exam 40 years ago

It all depends on the leader and how he got to where he is.
