View Full Version : Accepting Myself

Recently I've been trying to come to terms with my bisexuality. I'm also a Christian so it's turning out to be exceptionally hard to accept myself bring bi. I've also read articles saying that bisexuality is just homosexuality. Is this true and do you have any advise for me? Is it a sin to be bisexual?
Please, help me,
Thank you.

I know it'll be hard due to your religion but being any sexuality is not a sin, being bisexual can be either heterosexual or homosexual, it all depends on gender. You can't help if that is your personal preference and the best way to go about it i suppose is try to accept it in yourself. It is not wrong.

being bisexual isn't the same as being homosexual. I've known I was bi since I was about 11 years old but never acted on it until I was 15 and I have a steady guy I have been dating for a couple years. Honestly it's the best of both worlds I can't image only getting to enjoy sex any other way and my bf is totally supportive. As for the religious side for me it was the same in a way but when I was younger. As I got older I was able to overcome those conflicts by talking to others

Personally I don't believe bisexual and homosexual are the same but I also don't think it really matters either. Each person gives his/her own meaning to who they feel like they are. As for being Christian, I can relate because I consider myself bisexual and Christian but I feel like people (Christians and non-Christians) are beginning to move in a direction of tolerance and acceptance over judgement when it comes to sexual preference. Just be who you want to be.

Is not the same. If you like both genders then there you go. Of course, if you end up with a guy then it's pretty similar in that way. My advice is find a church that will accept you. There's a ton these days. Also i don't think the gospels ever mention this subject. Was Jesus a raging homophobe? No!
Don't beat yourself up over something you can't control.

I am 19 and exactly, like you I've been trying to decide, what I am and what our religion says about it. I personally think it is acceptable as long as it is not hurting others. Also that it doesn't affect your devotion to Christ.

I personally believe that if a religion has rules condemning you because of who you are, that religion isn't the right one for you. There's nothing wrong with being homosexual, bisexual, lesbian, etc. I'm really glad to see that you're coming to terms with your sexuality and accepting yourself for who you are. :) As always, I'm here if you ever want to talk.

You should do exactly the opposite of what this guy said:
You should first of all "suspend" your ideas about God and your relationship with him.
Then, you should try to examine your sexuality, and basically accept it if you find it is something you cannot give up.
Then, and only then, should you try to seek for God's support, and you should try to understand whether or not you think he could accept you.
Being myself an atheist, i don't know if i have been very helpful.
And no, bisexuality is not the same as homosexuality, biologically speaking. It is according to monotheistic religions.

From a religious point of view, only being straight is considered as the norm since being straight encourages the survival of the human specie!
I understand your dilemma but obviously there's something which needs to be forgone.
Good luck and choose wisely.

He can be bisexual and still keep his faith. I am bisexual and Christian as well and many Christians could care less what you are. God already loves us all, so never abandon God for he won't abandon you. Yes, it is a hard road but one that is easier with two things, friends, and God if you have faith in him. Was I always looking to God? No. I was often so confused and sad I didn't want to look to him because so many of his followers are judgemental but they don't control me. God loves us all so technically he'd care less what you are.

If you're referring to Leviticus, you should really take into consideration that those laws were meant to keep the jews alive while they were wandering around in the desert, and are simply unsuitable to be applied to modern society. There's actually a few same sex relationships mentioned in the Bible, and they are honored, not condemned.

As a Christian don't give up your religion because you think a guy is hot, if you act on it is a sin, don't listen to the Jesus haters please if you're a serious Christian. We can always turn away from our emotions

It's not a sin, in my books, to be yourself.
A lot of Christians believe it's wrong/sinful to be homosexual, and A LOT of Christians believe that God loves everyone, no matter what.
I'm agnostic, so I don't have the same views of you. But my family's Christian, and I have a lot of Christian friends, and I think they'd be okay with me being bi.
Don't worry about what others believe, just worry about what you believe.

The old testament also commanded ppl not to wear clothes

The truth is ppl pick which laws to ignore or call outdated and which

I am a Christian and I study it and you'd be surprised because there is Bible verses that say that being gay is a sin. Allow me to pull up some verses.
Romans 1:26-27
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
1st Corinthians 6:9
Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,
If God sees me as a wonderful person then why would he want me to change? Don't we believe that Gods love is unconditional?
God's love is unconditional. He wants you to change for the better so you don't have to follow that lifestyle anymore and to come out from that sin and be in a wonderful relationship with God.

I didn't know, can you tell me one of those relationships
Ruth loved Naomi as Adam loved Eve.
“Do not press me to leave you or to turn back from following you! Where you go, I will go; where you lodge I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die — there will I be buried. May the Lord do thus and so to me, and more as well, if even death parts me from you!” (Ruth 1:16-17)
^that verse has been used throughout christian history to describe how spouses are supposed to feel towards each other (though no one acknowledges they were originally spoken by a woman to another woman), and not once is Ruth and Naomi's relationship condemned. If anything it's used as an example for how couples should be.
David loved Jonathan more than any woman.
There are a couple hints that David and Jonathan were in a relationship. Like how when Jonathan first saw David when he volunteered to fight Goliath, he took off all his shit right then and there and gave it to him.
“When David had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was bound to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father’s house. Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul. Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that he was wearing, and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt.” (1 Samuel 18:1-4)
Even though it's never explicitly stated that Jonathan and David's relationship was sexual, it's pretty implicit:
“You son of a perverse, rebellious woman! Do I not know that you have chosen [David] the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness? For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, neither you nor your kingdom shall be established.” (1 Samuel 20:30)
Jonathan was an heir, and he had a duty to continue the line, and couldn't do that as long as he and David were together, since dudes can't get pregnant. (sounds a lot like parents who want grandkids, huh?)
That night Jonathan ran off and met David and they shared their final moments together.
“David rose from beside the stone heap and prostrated himself with his face to the ground. He bowed three times and they kissed each other and wept with each other; David wept the more. Then Jonathan said to David, ‘Go in peace, since both of us have sworn in the name of the Lord, saying, “The Lord shall be between me and you, and between my descendants and your descendants, forever.” ’ He got up and left; and Jonathan went into the city.” (1 Samuel 20:41-42)
I've never seen The Notebook, but this sounds like something that'd be in it.
Long story short, Jonathan got killed in battle and at his funeral, David wrote and performed this song:
“Saul and Jonathan, beloved and lovely!
In life and in death they were not divided;
they were swifter than eagles,
they were stronger than lions.
How the mighty have fallen in the midst of battle!
Jonathan lies slain upon your high places.
I am distressed for you my brother Jonathan;
Greatly beloved were you to me;
your love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.”
(2 Samuel 1:23, 26-27, emphasis added)
That's all I feel like explaining, because I'm lazy. But there's mention of Jesus saying some gay people are born that way, and some other stuff.

How do you know what God thinks. Do you think something so tiny and insignificant compared to God can know his full will. Anyway it's not as simple as changing my lifestyle with a single action. I've been praying to God every moment that I love to change, it's not that simple.
Maybe this will help you to empathise:
My name is Matthew and this is my story.....
It all started in January 2013. I was just so excited about everything and so very happy. I was in a stage where I was quite self concious about my body and I started talking to only my most trusted friends about personal things. I was interested to see if I was normal. All was fine until the topic of masturbation came up. At the time I thought that it was disgusting but my friends revealed that they did it too and they also said that many other guys in the grade did it too. All the cool kids did it so I thought that if I did it I would be cool as well. So I started. Back then it was only 2-3 times each week, probably less and the idea of pornography was repulsive and disgusting. So, off course, I was curious and I looked at porn and then gay porn. I found that I like gay porn and I watched it only about once very two weeks as i was still disgusted by it. When I got back to school I found out that I did not like the girl I had always liked. I liked a boy and it just so happened that that boy was one of my best friends. Over the course of the next few months I took countless online tests to see if I wad gay but it turned out that I was bisexual as I was still attracted to girls. I grew disgusted and repulsed at myself. I sunk into, what I believe, was depression. I found it extremely hard to get up in the morning, I didn't want to be around people. I wanted to be alone. This is when I started self harming. I punched and hit myself repeatedly with metal bottles and my own fists. I was disgusted that I masturbated and that I was attracted to guys. I started hating the guy who I liked, not only because I didn't want to like him but because he always ditched me and never talked to me. Then there was a period where I was really happy again. I no longer liked the boy that I used to but he kept ignoring me. I started getting sad and unhappy again. I was going through denial of my sexuality. All of my anger, frustration, sadness and disgust at myself overtook me. I kept masturbating and I also found that I kept staring at hot guys in public. I started self harming again, this time hitting myself with a belt. I hated myself, I wished that I was dead and I cried myself to sleep every night. I thought about drinking bleach. Eventually I stopped self harming but I still dreaded going to school every day. Most of my friends kept ditching me and I thought I was a freak. Every mean thing that I said/did felt like it was amplified by 1000. It was like a cloud of guilt and hate surrounding me, dragging me down. I started self harming again, repeatedly digging my nails into my skin, as it was drawing closer to the date when it had all started 1 year ago. Up until yesterday when I was trying to revive a friendship and all of the hate, anger, disgust, disappointment, sadness and revulsion just overwhelmed me. It all just came out to one of my friends. While I was saying it I think that I had a minor anxiety attack, I was shaking uncontrollably and I was sweating in an air conditioned room.
Every day I pray to God to help me. Please help me God, please help me. I hate myself and I just want to be normal...
I hate myself and I need help on this forum. I need people to understand.

In life and in death they were not divided;
they were swifter than eagles,
they were stronger than lions.
How the mighty have fallen in the midst of battle!
Jonathan lies slain upon your high places.
I am distressed for you my brother Jonathan;
Greatly beloved were you to me;
your love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.”
(2 Samuel 1:23, 26-27, emphasis added)

That's all I feel like explaining, because I'm lazy. But there's mention of Jesus saying some gay people are born that way, and some other stuff.

Am focusing on the two because God destroyed them for being homosexuals that men their even wanted to have sex with an angel
What I'm saying is that God had other cites destroyed too.
That sin is sin in the bible and laws are laws, but many
Christians decide what they want to focus on and what they
want to gloss over, based a lot of prejudice. A straight couple
committing adultery to most, is no where as huge of a sin to them as a
gay couple. It is typical prejudice, hypocrisy and double standards as I
see it.

I have read the long post you made a few entries above here, as well as the first one you made.
Being gay is not a sin. I don't see it as wrong in any way whatsoever, apart from its dis-functionality regarding to evolution and carrying on genes in the species. It is different. Differences that do not cause unavoidable problems should not be ridiculed, and this difference should be celebrated. Me being agnostic (possibly religious-but-in-a-very-'strange'-way), I can't really help in terms of experience with sexuality and religion. I was very hard mentally on myself for my sexuality before I accepted it (starting from 2007 to late June this year), but not so comparing to your experiences.
We all have a big capacity to see ourselves as our enemies and we need to move away from that. I can't really give advice for you, but I hope that others are doing so and will do so. Do what you feel is right for you. *hugs*

The Genesis 19 account of Sodom and Gomorrah is a story of attempted gang rape of two "outsiders." It says nothing about loving gay relationships, and actually condemns the sort of violence sometimes done to gays and lesbians. Jude 7 talks about a first century Jewish legend that the women of Sodom had sex with male angels. Since it is about heterosexual sex between angels and humans, it clearly has nothing to do with gay relationships.

why did the men of sodom refuse Lot's daughters and wanted the angels i Genesis 19:8

“Not everyone can accept this teaching, but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.” (Matthew 19:11-12)
Here Jesus identifies three classes of men who should not marry women. Taking his categories in reverse order, first, there are those who have made themselves “eunuchs” for the kingdom of heaven, i.e., those who foreswear marriage to better serve God. Second, he mentions those who have been “made eunuchs by others,” an apparent reference to castrated males. But Jesus mentions a third category — eunuchs who were born that way. Some might argue that Jesus was referring to males born without testicles, but this would be extremely rare. Moreover, this interpretation ignores how the term “born eunuchs” was used in other literature of the time.

the point of that story is Sodom's violation of strict and universally acknowledged norms of hospitality. To deny hospitality to a stranger in the desert was considered the height of cruelty. When Lot welcomed the two angels into his house and the local men banged on the door and asked for them, he offers his daughters because "strangers should not be treated in such a violent way. it's pretty clear that they are referring to homosexual rape. Which is a violent act of aggression and something we would all condemn and deem worthy of God's judgement.

Homosexuality has been around since way before Christianity. Ask yourself this: Why practice a religion that demonizes you for being who you are?

Recently I've been trying to come to terms with my bisexuality. I'm also a Christian so it's turning out to be exceptionally hard to accept myself bring bi. I've also read articles saying that bisexuality is just homosexuality. Is this true and do you have any advise for me? Is it a sin to be bisexual?
Please, help me,
Thank you.
Hi there Melman! When i first started coming to terms with myself about being gay it really scared me. I had friends that would talk about how homosexuality is a sin and stuff like that so it made me not want to tell them of course. Being bisexual is basically being heterosexual AND homosexual to different degrees. Because being bisexual means you are attracted to both sexes i think it sort of conflicts with your question about it just being homosexuality because ultimately, it's both. Asking if it is a sin to be bisexual is the same as saying is it a sin to be yourself. You don't choose to be bisexual or homosexual like some people think. You don't really have a choice about what or who you are attracted to. There are COUNTLESS issues with people saying this or that is a sin from the bible. It's really up to what you believe in. You shouldn't worry about what religion says about who you are because you can't change it. If you are bisexual then that is you and you can't change it! You just need to accept yourself. :) Even the Pope (Although he is from Catholic religion, both Christianity and Catholicism talk about homosexuality being a sin) said, "If they accept the Lord and have goodwill, who am I to judge them?" And i agree 100% that if you have good intentions then who is anyone else to judge? Hope this helps!

so the truth remains that homosexuality is sin
The truth remains that if a Christian guy has sexual thoughts
about a girl - he is just as much of a sinner according to the bible.
Let he who is without sin throw the first rock - sound familiar?

How do you know what God thinks. Do you think something so tiny and insignificant compared to God can know his full will. Anyway it's not as simple as changing my lifestyle with a single action. I've been praying to God every moment that I love to change, it's not that simple.
I don't know what God thinks but I do know that God stands on His word and that's the Bible. And the Bible specifically says that homosexuality is a sin.

God made is to love Him and one another. If he didn't want us to like the same sex wouldn't he have taken away our ability to be homosexual? Love is love. I hate myself and I want to change but maybe He made me this way for a reason. Maybe He meant some good to come out of this pain.

God wanted us to love one another because that is what we are to
show to other people because Christ loved everyone but he didn't love someone to the point of Him wanting be a homosexual.
God does take away the ability to remove to be homosexual if you trust in Him and have faith that He will do that. The reason why people fall into homosexuality is because God tried to tell them not to go for it but they ended up continuing it and then God gave them over to a depraved mind so that they can continue doing their sin and what they desire. (Romans 1)
Don't hate yourself for what you did. We all make mistakes because we aren't perfect. I am not even perfect. Only Jesus is perfect Just ask God for forgiveness and turn away from it and then don't worry about it. Jesus did say cast all of your burdens upon Him. God can forgive you for what you did no matter what you did even if you think you did something so horrible. God is still able to forgive you ONLY if you turn away and never do it again the sin you do.

This thread is running round and round in circles, there is no one answer to this question. Melman came here for help not to be bashed and or judged repeatedly. This is a help section, not a debate section. I'm locking this thread before it turns even worse, if you have an issue with this, PM me. :locked:
