/// I hate ALCHOHOL

Confession:
I honestly plan on never drinking alchohol.
It's because alchohol annoys me.
When people drink alchohol, all it's telling me is that they don't like things enough as they are, and have to be drunk to like it.

I think it's annoying offensive and unnescicary.
People drink alchohol to forget their problems? I don't reccomend it, but fine.
It's the drinking with family/friends that gets to me.
I just think it's annoying that everyone is not only drinking (you might as well get a little high, but no that's concidered weird),
but people are expected to drink and like alchohol.

When I say I hope never to start drinking (I concider it a drug) they just kind of laugh and be like
"Haha, silly little one you will learn to enjoy it like everyone else."

There's just such social pressure to drink, it's ridiculous.
I want to have standards and pride, instead of drinking to feel better.

I feel the same way about alcohol, but not for the same reason. I hate the effect it has on people. It's repulsive. I refuse to talk or interact with someone that I know is intoxicated unless absolutely necessary. I try not to develop a superiority complex over it though. Some people have serious issues and they don't cope well. I don't know their situation, so I'm not in a place to judge. I resent the activity, not the people.

I feel the exact same way!
I really made it sound offensive, lol.
I know some people have serious problems. I hate alchohol, is indeed a better way of saying it without sounding like an arse /:

When people drink I avoid them because they are not the same person.

AMEN.

I've seen its effect on people close to me and I've had many relatives and friends die of alcohol-related health complications and drunk driving.

Same, because it tastes awful and because Of it I never got meet my grandfather, and it nearly killed my father before I was born.

I never met my g-pa either. He was from Eastern Europe, so a pretty heavy drinker by nature. :(
As is the majority of my family....

I don't drink to get drunk. I drink because I honestly like the way alcohol tastes. I don't need to have a bunch of drinks and get completely wasted to have a good time, either.

You have your reasons to not like drinking, and I respect them, but don't assume that everyone who drinks does it just to get drunk. There's such a thing as class and a lot of people still have it. You can enjoy a few alcoholic beverages without getting wasted. I do it all the time. And guess what? My pride is still intact.

People that drink don't annoy me, drunk assholes annoy me. As far as never drinking, alcohol tastes like ass. I've been told it's an acquired taste, but I'm not putting in work to acquire a taste for something that tastes like ass.

I'm not saying i think everyone that drinks does it to get completely wasted;
when people even drink one glass of whatever-alchoholic-drink it slightly annoys me, because it already has effects from the first glass.
So technically they are not completely the same person, and already slightly drunk, what they often call "loosened up"

As for the taste, most people I know (and from what I tasted (it tasted once)) say alchohol doesn't actually taste good. It's the drink that tastes good, so why not just drink alchohol free?

You're confusing me, first you say you never plan on drinking and people who do drink annoy you and now you say you tasted it. And yes there IS such a thing as class, I've had alcoholic beverages before and I've never done anything that would be bad. I've never been drunk or wasted, and it's not like EVERYONE is like how you are stereotyping it.

I have tasted and smelled alchohol, as in I tasted one sip (not even a sip really) and I found it disguisting.
And I am not stereotyping anything?
Like I said before, even when people don't drink to forget their problems or get wasted, it still annoys me, for the fact that alchohol changes you. Even one glass of wine makes me feel like I'm not talking to the same person.
So next time please read what I actually said.

i kinda understand how you feel about alcohol, but saying that drinking to forget your problems is 'fine' while drinking with friends/family is just wrong. i hope you never get to see someone so hurt that ends up drinking a whole bottle just to forget about their problems, it's just horrible.

when people tell you you'll learn to enjoy alcohol its usually meant that you will start liking the taste when you are older, not that you are expected to drink and/or like it. its just like other stuff like olives, most people hate it when they are young but when you are older you try one and you kinda enjoy the taste now.

im not gonna try to hide the fact that you will be pressured to drink at some point in your life (probably in your teens), but having standards and pride has nothing to do with drinking.

Sorery, I didn't mean for it to sound like that. Ofcourse it isnt fine, i know it's terrible, but it is their own buisnes.
It's terrible for them, but not the kind of drinking that annoys me.

I don't beleive that tho. Most people hated the taste and only started liking it because hey are expected to drink and like it. And when you do that, you wil eventually start liking it.

im not gonna try to hide the fact that you will be pressured to drink at some point in your life (probably in your teens), but having standards and pride has nothing to do with drinking.

I know that I will be pressured, and having standards and pride has everything to do with it.
If I am pressured to drink alchohol, but I don't out of my own principals, that is exactly what standards are, yes?

I respect that you don't like alcohol okay, but I feel like you have quite ignorant views on alcohol and what it does to people. It does cause a lot of damage to a lot of people, but not everybody that gets drunk acts like an arsehole. You can't say people instantly change on it because you haven't tried it, to know how it feels. If you drink small amounts you will feel happy and buzzing from it. Its only if you drink WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much, you act like an arsehole, and the majority of people who drink are sensible drinkers!

Did I say they all act like assholes?
You see, this is exactly the problem.
"If you drink small amounts you will feel happy and buzzing from it."
So, in a way, people are already affected. Even when the effects are positive.

When people drink alchohol it makes me feel like the way things are naturally aren't good enough, so they have to drink to feel "happy and buzzing"
I find it annoying.
So in other words, my views aren't as ignorant, maybe you should have just read what I said better.

actually not everyone gets effects from the very first glass. experienced social drinkers might not even get effects from three or four glasses

my parents come from germany, where attitudes toward drinking are more liberal and people drink socially and in more moderation. not everyone changes or "loosens up" from just a glass or two. honestly it sounds like you've been around people who don't know how to handle alcohol

I read it well enough, only alcoholics drink alcohol to make things feel better. I think because your still young, you will end up one day drinking, its inevitable in our society these days for young people to drink.

So try to read it better.

Your response is something like

And my whole point is that it doesn't have to be the case.

I find it ridiculous that it's so imbedded in society that people think you have to start drinking.

Alcohol is a drug infact a psychotropic drug.

However I honestly believe it is something that goes hand in hand with being human, history shows it and life around shows it.

The problem isn't drinking alcohol the problem is our perception of alcohol and the way enjoyment from alcohol is perceived.

When ''getting drunk'' is the only goal it becomes a messy affair that rarely produces just ''good times'' excess leads to disaster in one way or another.

In my opinion you should drink alcohol for a few reasons; you like the taste of an alcoholic beverage i.e beer, wine, whiskey, licquors, conjac and so on the list of spirits with a deep history and unique flavors is truly long and interesting, the history alone related to the more common alcoholic drinks is already such a huge and for me interesting subject.

That is the main reason to drink anything. For the experience the best example being a fine whiskey you don't drink a good single malt to get drunk you drink a few glasses to discover the smells, flavors and have some ''quality time'' so rather than getting drunk you are getting ''tipsy''

Alcohol has many positive effects when taken in moderation; it makes our physical body relax and opens up our mind a little and thus it makes, in most cases, social interaction smoother and can make you ''hear'' and see things you don't usually see. I sometimes have a few glasses of whisky and listen to more complicated music and discover I do hear instruments I don't usually hear when sober. But again the key word is ''tipsy'' I'm not getting drunk. I'm enjoying a moderate amount of alcohol in a relaxed atmosphere.

This same problem of culture translates over to food and alcohol. In countries where the culture of alcohol consumption is better alcohol is almost always meant to accompany meals and gatherings of loved ones. A good meal a good class of wine and good company is an excellent thing indeed. Again this relates to the ''experience'' factor. You don't drink a good glass of wine with your food to get drunk you drink it to add a little to the flavor experience and maybe to get you a little tipsy if you so desire.

Since alcohol is a drug there will always be people who are not suited for alcohol and will never be capable of enjoying it responsibly and sensibly.

Sometimes getting past tipsy to drunk is fine as well but whenever people are just drinking with the sole intention of getting drunk it is the same as substance abuse and such behaivour should be avoided, though it comes ohh so easily in the teenage years where most of you guys (and me) start(ed) first drinking alcohol.

So yes there are a lot of negative things about alcohol but there are a lot of positives as well and I think everyone should try and make up their own mind about alcohol based on their own experiences. However in a culture where drinking to get drunk is more and more rampant getting the knowledge and taking the first steps to experimenting with alcohol reasonably and with quality is getting harder and harder.

Don't judge people who drink and don't make up your mind about drinking based on people who can't drink responsibly. Just avoid those social events if they bother you. You can always choose how you spend your free time and how you experience joy and relax with your loved ones.

Yay for alcohol rant!

Like I already said multiple times...
I do not just mean people that get completely wasted.
When people are a little "tipsy" that already annoys me.
Or at a family dinner or whatever, and someone just starts drinking beer.
When I ask why they usaually say because it's tasty.
But when I ask them If they thought it was tasty before they started drinking it all the time, they said no, and that you just need to get used to the taste.

So okay, maybe there are really tasty alchoholic drinks.
They are mostly tasty because other ingredients in it.
So why not just drinking alchohol free?
Most people think alchohol itself doesn't have a real taste or just tastes bad.

Sure, you can drink alchohol i don't know, for your own entertainment or something.
But I don't understand why people always just start drinking in front of other people. how would you feel if I just do drugs in the middle of a conversation.
Even if you are not completely wasted, you are already effected by the alchohol.

I too never plan to start drinking, but I don't hate people when they drink. This may partially be because I'm really too young for any members of my social group to start drinking, but I've been at many parties where adults, including my parents, get tipsy/moderately drunk. (My parents host a annual christmas party) I think it's fine in moderation and as long as you don't have a problem. From what I've heard, wasted people aren't fun so I agree with that, but being tipsy, as long as you don't force me to drink, is fine
