Hi everyone, I'm thinking of getting the Sigma 70-300mm for Christmas but I'm not sure if the non-APO version of the lens will auto-focus with my Nikon D3100 body. The APO version is more expensive and I'm willing to sacrifice the image stabilization as long as I can auto-focus. SO, does anyone know if i'll be OK with the standard version?

Honestly, I'd take image-stabilization over auto-focus any day.
Non IS means that you're either going to have to shoot at relatively high shutter speeds, carry around a tripod, or deal with blurry photos... Non-IS is a pain...

Thanks for your help, realized in the end that APO isn't actually IS at all, its a type of glass that prevents aberration. Neither the APO or non APO have IS anyway! Seems to be ok though, good results with a tripod :D

Ah, ok...
Is there a huge difference with image quality ratings between the two lenses? If it's not too big of a difference in quality, you could save a little bit by going with the non-APO and maybe putting some money toward a good filter from B&W or Hoya?

Ive been using the non APO now for a few weeks and I havent noticed any difference in quality. There isnt any fringing or anything around the image so it was worth saving the money and going for the non APO. Yeah, your filter idea is a good one, might look into it. Thanks!
