Despite not being able to post links, please search up Duck a Dynasty and you'll see that one of the stars went on a homophobic anti-gay rant spewing hate, bigotry, and ignorance. Personally I never watched the show, but now I don't think they deserve to have any episodes past, present, or future air at all after this. Such a shame of TV business to portray a cast of ignorant and small minded religious bigots and allow it to be this popular.

I've never watched it but I think that his comments were interesting to say the least. I hope that the TV companies and advertisers come out and distance themselves from the statement because there really isn't any place for such homophobic crap in our modern day media. Once again it's someone giving religion a bad name by claiming that homosexuality is a sin because the Bible says so- the bible also encourages slavery and domestic abuse but I don't see the religious right preaching that.
He's one character in a TV show so I think it would be unfair to ban/cancel the entire TV program based on his own views,

If you actually read what I what I said later in my post I clearly say that the program shouldn't be cancelled and that I would like the program companies etc to distance themselves.
I didn't call for him to be censored or anything like that- I simply said that the show shouldn't be used as mouthpiece for his views which quite frankly contribute to the terrible record that the states and other countries have with teen suicides from the LGBT community. If they wake up and see people they've watched for the last 2 years tell them that they're going to hell they're hardly going to feel any better during a very tough time for LGBT teens.

Edit: Okay, I read the interview, and I really don't understand whyyou think this guy should be taken off the air. It's a belief held by many Americans that gay sex is sin. He wasn't specifically insulting people for who they are, just saying he didn't approve of what they do because of his religous beliefs. If that is something that justifies taking A and Es #1 show off the air, they have a problem.

You are both spot on. If this guy was yelling homophobic slurs and insulting them for who they are as people, it would be different. But he's not.

Yes, yes he did. I'm not calling on him to be banned- I clearly outline that in my points above.
But he said that gay sex is not only a sin but he compared it to bestiality and said that it was breaking down american society. For the millions of gay teens who are already struggling with their sexuality and their mental state comments like this are hardly going to make them feel any better is it? Suicide rates among LGBT teens are already too high and people coming out and saying that it's a sin and your going to go to hell is hardly doing any good.
So yes I know for a fact as gay person he said something to be very upset about. It's simple as that, he compared gay people to drug addicts and prostitutes which goes back to this stupid belief we held 40 years ago that homosexuality is some sort of illness.
If he had come out and said I endorse slavery because the old testament supports it then he would of probably would of had a very different reaction. I'm not saying take him off air but I am saying that his comments were homophobic and horrible. Homophobia is a bad as racism.

Considering Duck Dynasty is a reality TV show about a wealthy Christian family and their business antics, I wouldn't doubt that Phil would have the opinion he did. Do I agree with his opinions? No. Should that prevent me from watching the show? No.
This is the world: We are all different people. We all have different personalities and thoughts. We all start out as a single-celled organism that develops into a much different human being. If you can't learn to tolerate other people's beliefs, you don't know much about "equality".
Let him have his opinion and allow him to state it. I know the LGBT community has had it rough and this generation needs motivation to stand up and speak themselves, but you can't smother out the other voices around.

Ive been away for a while and to be honest, i stopped caring about peoples "Feelings" along time ago since mine and everyone else i knows feelings have been trampled on. So i stand with Phil. Everything he said is spot on. He never said anything bad about anyone so quit saying he did. He compared it to Bestiality for a reason. Homosexual relations is just a doorway for worse things. I argued this on abortion and people thought i was crazy. Well did you know people want to get it passed so that people can abort their children AFTER BIRTH. Congrats, you opened the doorway and now its harder to close. Same with homosexuality. When people say that the gay community has it rough, apparently they dont know that the street runs both ways. Ive seen posts and other things from gays that was made to make people feel bad for being straight. The "Group of Fairness" has no fairness when others speak their opinions. Im not for gays, i will say that. I wish no harm on no one that doesnt do wrong to me first, including every religion, LGBT's, other races, ect. But people get butthurt over subjects like this because they feel "Threatened". Well i would like to ask something. Where has he threatened you, and why should he not speak his opinion. Gays have parades and assembly's. Do you see any Straight Parades? Do you know why? Its because people feel "Threatened" and the media roles with it and calls everyone there 'homophobic' and 'gay hater'. Is it any fair that you get to speak your mind because the media is on your side and we don't? If that is the case, i will leave this forum here, post one more time and tell my friend(s) to drop me a line somewhere else. Could you please explain how homosexuality leads to bestiality? All you did was draw an invalid abortion parallel and then say "Same with homosexuality".
I don't call you a bigot because I want to label you or because I want to censor you, I call you a bigot because you're a bigot.
As for this Phil guy: no, I don't think the show should be cancelled. I think his opinion is vile and I call him a bigot as well, but that's no reason to cancel his show.

Honestly, I love duck dynasty. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion and should be respected anyways even if you don't agree with their opinion. Everyone should have that right, to be able to think what they want to think without being trashed for it.

Keep Duck Dynasty on air. We shouldn't be allowed to ban or censor programmes (/individuals/groups/whatever) because it holds opinions that differ from that of the mainstream. On that: don't expect these programmes/individuals to hold their funding particularly long either - studios will find that retaining such unpopularity is costly - as what happened here.

It probably isn't but to quote Jon Stewart: "I'm not going to censor myself to comfort your ignorance." The irony is that I'm being bigoted myself in criticising homophobes but at least there's some logic to mine own.

You know what irritates me? The fact that there's tons of kids being bullied and harrassed every day and adults too that AREN'T homosexual, but yet homosexual bullying gets so blown up. What about the people will medical problems (such as me) that get bullied every single day of their lives, and commit suicide because of it? What about the people who are special needs like my 11 year old cousin and they can't even go to a freaking mcdonalds without being called retarded or gawked at and people say things like "special needs people should be burned at birth so that nobody has to deal with their disgustingness..." and so many other horrible things. But nobody notices us. It's always either racism or homophobia.

I completely agree. And even 60 is nothing compared to THOUSANDS OF YEARS of being treated like shit. In the big picture of things, minorities such as gays have been hated on since the dawn of the human race. Homosexuality is in hundreds of animal species. Only one displays homophobia and hate.

That actually kinda is how the world works when you're employed. He said something his employer didn't like and got suspended for it.

I believe that canceling the show would be pointless. They shamed Paula Deen for something she said decades ago. And she was raised to think that way! There is no stopping that. I watch the show because it's funny. Not because of their views/opinions.

I think it boils down to whoever finances the show not liking
what he said and dumping him. Basically they do not want to be
represented by what he has made himself into. This is now what
he will always be remembered for. He is kind of like a commodity
and he ended up tainting himself.
This is not the first time something like this has
happened and he should have known better.
Also as far as freedom of speech goes - it is still intact.
He is not going to jail for what he said - he is not going
to have to pay any fines or anything like that.
A VT member has right to post homophobic or racial slurs here without
getting in trouble with the law. But as a VT member posting on their
forum - that member is obligated to post according to VT standards and
if they fail to do so then VT has the right to dump them. But that does
not mean that person's freedom has been taken from them.

For me, it looks like a large majority of the people are supporting one person's hate speech. It may be his right to speak, but it's still hate speech against a small minority of humans. He so obviously equates us from rapists to animal rapists. It's quite offensive and really hateful. Just banning one person from the show isn't enough. The whole show must be cancelled.

So does that give you the right to trample on everyone else's feelings? I don't think so, and plenty of others don't. You feel that, since you've been trampled on, that EVERYONE around you has to be trampled on by you now. That's not how things work in the world, you should know that.

He only got suspended because of public outcry to A&E. I highly doubt A&E really would have done anything otherwise if there was no public outcry.

My god, is this what they teach you? Were you never taught capacity for free thought? Animals don't practice homosexuality because they are put in confinement, it's well documented in nature to happen. I'm going to use Wikipedia here, but go ahead and look at the references they use here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_behavior_in_animals#References). When I looked up the subject myself about a year ago, I used those references found on Wikipedia to form my opinion. And yes, given the data, I concluded that homosexuality is practiced by animals in nature, not just in confinement. It's obviously a natural occurrence, and if you can't wrap your head around simple scientific information, I have no hope for you.

My god, is this what they teach you? Were you never taught capacity for free thought? Animals don't practice homosexuality because they are put in confinement, it's well documented in nature to happen. I'm going to use Wikipedia here, but go ahead and look at the references they use here. When I looked up the subject myself about a year ago, I used those references found on Wikipedia to form my opinion. And yes, given the data, I concluded that homosexuality is practiced by animals in nature, not just in confinement. It's obviously a natural occurrence, and if you can't wrap your head around simple scientific information, I have no hope for you.

Do you know what end posts means? Jesus was the son of God. And i firmly believe everything in the Bible. Do you know why? Its because science is catching up with the bible. New Jerusalem is supposed to come down from the sky, but how can a city do that? Well the streets are paved with gold so pure, it is to be transparent glass. The Bible, though i dont know where off the top of my head, says people with be around trees at Christmas time, but Christmas trees are fairly new compared to the Bible, so how did they know? It took seven periods of over xbillion years to get to where people started. Seven days for God but it affected us for billions of years. And you cant say to me that the writers of the Bible thought up of all this without help of God. So if he says being homosexual is an abomination, then im going to believe it.

Gay people should have equal rights, we are engaged in a struggle for equal rights in the same way that Blacks and Mexicans battled back in the 1960's. I accept that the man has every legal right to make that comment however I strongly disagree with his comments and I believe that gay people like straight people should have equal rights.

I believe it has all been just a big overreaction. Can't everyone just see that he simply has a particular religious opinion? Just move on, no suspensions or cancellations, it's almost playgroundish the fervor. I am a Christian and I and many other Christians strongly disagree with his view, which I find to be completely ignorant. But you know what, I would have just noted it and moved on, continuing to watch the show (if I watched it before) without change. Watching the show doesn't mean I agree with the views of the characters, in fact I might have suspected that an abhorrent view on homosexuality might have been present before it was even mentioned given the nature of the show, it wouldn't change the reason why I watched the show.

Despite not being able to post links, please search up Duck a Dynasty and you'll see that one of the stars went on a homophobic anti-gay rant spewing hate, bigotry, and ignorance. Personally I never watched the show, but now I don't think they deserve to have any episodes past, present, or future air at all after this. Such a shame of TV business to portray a cast of ignorant and small minded religious bigots and allow it to be this popular.

affiliation with A&E and they want to sever that tie. Robinson

No, it's really not. He listed some of the sins that came to mind. Drinking, fornication, bestiality to name a few. Still his opinion, and still the same opinion shared by other Christians. My belief does NOT include that. I have NEVER told someone that, nor will I EVER. For that matter, no one I even know, says things like that. And the thing is, I support gay rights because I think those rights are constitutionally sound, and I have gay friends. I want my friends to be happy, with who ever makes them happy, and I want them to have all the rights that my husband and I will have when I get married, because that's what's fair.
No, that doesn't make it right, you are correct. But, telling someone else that they are wrong and completely disrespecting their beliefs and their rights is what is wrong with BOTH sides. We have to compromise. That's not likely to happen, but you see, it can't be one sided. While I don't like what he said, I support his right to say it even if it is borderline bigoted. What I don't understand is how Christians knit-pick parts of the bible to believe in, yet don't believe in other parts (An example being the whole no-two-types-of-cloth, or the shellfish thing). This guy clearly believes in the Anti-Gay area, yet I bet he doesn't believe in spousal abuse or slavery.
I say let him have his opinion, but If people feel like complaining to the broadcaster about him voicing it, then let them do that too.

He's no rational basis to move against two of three of those 'sins' you mentioned - drinking and fornicating - yet still strongly believes that he is correct to do so regardless of that. Here, I'll repost the definition of bigotry and allow you decide for yourself whether his views deserve such a label: "having or revealing an obstinate belief in the superiority of one's own opinions and a prejudiced intolerance of the opinions of others." It seems like it to me, though.

Whatever it is called, it is still bad and that doorway was opened because of abortion.I sorta gave up reading what you were saying after 'animals have gay sex; therefore gays are like animals' though I felt this was important to clarify: if anything 'opened the door' - which is a glaring slippery slope argument, I'll add - it was legalising euthanasia (which as far as I'm aware hasn't happened in the US yet) and not abortion. Though I can assure you right now that this proposed motion will never get passed. Infanticide seems to me like it would contravene the infants 'inalienable' right to life - note: a foetus does not posses this same right as it is not considered a full human being under the constitution before you make any attempt to argue here.

You have been making sense with your arguments throughout this thread. I'll elucidate further that Robertson was only mentioning homosexuality along with beastiality and such because he intended to make a list of "sins", not to really "compare" them. But I am a Christian and I do not think that homosexuality is a sin, nor am I "instructed" to follow the Bible (I find that command no where). I suggest this is why you cannot reason it out, because it simply is not true.

Only a particular interpretation of Christianity does not support same sex marriage. I do not believe in the infallibility of the Bible, and New Testament authors can be ignorant on non-theological issues. There is variety in Christianity.

There's a difference between being passionate about something and being overly supportive about something. Having radical, pro-everything individuals causing such a problem over some guy's opinion is just meaningless and won't achieve anything. You can't just throw labels on entire religious demographics, nor should you just dismiss all religion as based on a "two thousand year old book written by some dude." There are more religions and different forms of religious practices than you can imagine - not every Christian has to be anti-LGBT rights, you know (I use Christian because I'm guessing that's the sect you're targeting).

I don't think it really matters, honestly. Because this is a bad situation. Either way, one side is going to oppressed. If Christian morals win out, which lets be honest, they won't, then homosexuals won't get their rights and that's unconstitutional as well as unfair and cruel. But, if that side wins out, and things continue as they are, thing will get nasty for Christians quick. Like that whole ordeal about churches being sued for not allowing gay couples to get married in their church. My opionion:
Before Tuesday when i got home from work I looked up to Phil more than most people on Duck Dynasty. He had great moral values and he turned his life around from nothing to something. He raised an excelent family. He is a great hunter.
I read the interview that got him in all that trouble. He says that two people of the same sex having sex is the same as beastiality. He says that the Japanese, Nazis, Muslims, and Communist the stem of the worlds problems..... Even thought that is not anywhere near true. He also says that the reason why he voted for Romney in 2008 was that if he was lost at 3 am in a metropolitan area that he would rather be in Salt Lake City (where he says Romney is from, which he is not, further stereotyping religion) then Chicago (where Obama is from). He was ignorant of the racism going on when he was growing up.
Scratching my head. I am scratching my head even more when people are posting on Facebook and change.org to bring him back because of freedom of speech or they didn't read the actual interview. Phil successfully offended a large number of religions and races in one interview and from a financial standpoint A&E cannot continue on with Phil being their. I do not feel like the Robertson family realizes how much of a big deal it is what Phil said.

If he had made a comment saying that he supported gays and wanted them to have rights to marriage, etc. then would he have been banned even though many people who are anti gay would be angry with him? Doubtful.
This is the same as the case with Dan Cathy. Neither man said anything directly attacking a gay person, but just said that they don't agree with homosexuality. Yet both are looked down upon because they stated their views.
Why in our society, are we punished if we state our personal beliefs against homosexuality, but are celebrated if we state that we support gays?

I don't care what happens to the show at this point. I've just blocked some people on my facebook since they won't shut the fuck up about it. I don't care for his opinion. It doesn't concern me one bit. He shouldn't be censored. Christians and other groups can continue to defend him all they want, and say he has free speech. That doesn't mean he can't be criticized, altho why you "progressives" and "intellectuals" want to do so is beyond me. At the end of the day, to me it's all fake and nothing more than bullshit. Nope, I'm not kidding you. Look at Huckabee's polling in Iowa, look at Santorum's polling as well. Both these candidates are extremely popular despite the fact that neither of them are fiscally conservative. I believe people like Gringich and Santorum also ran the basis of their 2012 campaigns on being social conservatives. Whilst I'll freely admit that some republicans with an ounce of intelligence such as Rob Portman and John Mccain have actually came out in support of gay marriage a large amount of them pride themselves in not believing in equal rights. The GOP isn't derided as the God and Oil party for nothing

I agree with Phil Robertson regarding his views. I grew up in a conservative upper class Christian family located right smack dab in the Bible belt. I believe that if a homosexual does not change his ways, he will go to Hell.

I personally believe that the man from Duck Dynasty said nothing wrong and that his words align to his faith. Me being a Christian like he and also believing in the Bible I can see his reasons. What I do not so is reason for the blatant disrespect to him and on this thread.
Some of you debate or not should apologize to those whom you have called, "bigoted", "irrational" and out right "homophobic". All this fighting solves nothing if both sides are blinded by either fury or misunderstanding. I myself do not wholeheartedly agree with homosexuality but I will respect and love the homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, etc. If they respect me. I understand how not many gays do indeed agree with Christianity but remeber many gays and others alike are Christian yet do not preach hate.
One thing that irks me, or two rather, how some of the LGBT are nice until God is brought up, and how slavery is compared to homosexual tribulation... Trust me, slavery in America was like Hell to the slaves, no life, freedom, property, and barely even a say or breath. Plus why the hostility to the Christian belief or disagreeing with homosexuality? We don't hate the person or group, we disagree with the sin and lifestyle but pray for the best.
Now , I do agree with the amd from Duck Dynasty, you do not ask a question and get offended by the answer and attack the person, that is bigotry. Yes you can disagree but when you ask something you honestly have no clue what will be said and even though you may not like it you should at least answer back respectfully and with civil intentions.

Until he provides the burden of proof (i.e., rational-backing) for why it is logical to gravitate away from the set position (all actions are equal; are individuals are equal) then his position is neither logical not reasonable. The position of pro-LGBT is both logical and reasonable on the other hand because we are making no claim but rather are merely refuting his illogical claim.
If a pro-LGBT individual started making the claim that the LGBT were superior then (s)he would be the illogical and unreasonable one.

Even a Christian could end up in Hell if he or she is not living with a clear relation with God which is only where that said person and God dwell. Homosexuality is bad because the bible said so. Well what if I believe all heterosexuals are bad because the HomoGod said so? This was just an accident waiting to happen. You don't make a television series about real rednecks and not expect them to make homophobic/racist remarks in public interviews. I couldn't care less what A&E decides to do with their show, I never watched it before and I most certainly won't start just because of this fiasco. As a network, they have every right to do whatever they want with their show and that issue doesn't bother me in the slightest. The characters have every right to believe anything they want just as much as the network has every right to suspend them from the show.

It is not necessary for the Christian faith, nor even an expected aspect, to believe homosexuality is a sin. You can say "I am a Christian and I believe that homosexuality is a sin." But you cannot say "In the Christian faith homosexuality is a sin". This is what makes unbelievers so motivated to deride Christianity, it is statements such as this that actually are incorrect.

All religion is Public relations- back in the 1500's they used it to wage holy war on the Muslims, back in the 1700's they used it to endorse Slavery, in the 1900's they used it to support apartheid and now in the 2000's they using it as an excuse to deny someone their rights.
It seems convenient how much the church adapts it's position to cater to the majority (within the church). In 200 years time hopefully the church will look bad and try and forget how they opposed equal rights in the same way the church forget that they endorsed holy wars and Slavery

It is not necessary for the Christian faith, nor even an expected aspect, to believe homosexuality is a sin. You can say "I am a Christian and I believe that homosexuality is a sin." But you cannot say "In the Christian faith homosexuality is a sin". This is what makes unbelievers so motivated to deride Christianity, it is statements such as this that actually are incorrect.
Sin is sin, homosexuality is one of many, no identifying sin is not all Christianity is but as a Christian one is supposed to try and resist sin and to warn those who are in it for better or worse. Of course the main goal of a Christian is to be with God, nothing more or less there either, but not to stay silent on what is isn't right when asked.

All religion is Public relations- back in the 1500's they used it to wage holy war on the Muslims, back in the 1700's they used it to endorse Slavery, in the 1900's they used it to support apartheid and now in the 2000's they using it as an excuse to deny someone their rights.

As an agnostic within a Christian family, not all Christians are homophobic. In fact, the Christian teachings are to accept everyone for who they are. Look at Pope Francis. He is very accepting to the LGBT community.

I really don't think a majority of you understand this thread. Ultimately, it's not about religion - it's about freedom of speech and how both parties can exercise it. Phil most definitely had the right to say what he said, however, A&E also has the right to kick him off or cancel the show (not really sure which one they wanted to do but I could care less). It's not really about "Oh but I totally support his beliefs!" or "T.V shows should distance themselves from this homophobic man!" It's about rights and how they can be expressed on both ends.

It provides a figurehead for a lot of people with similarly ugly views. You know what that leads to? Lobbies. You both are confusing infallible text dogma with Christian theological necessity. It is NOT a necessity in the Christian religion to interpret the Bible as God's infallible word. This is a DOGMA begun by the CATHOLIC CHURCH back in the 4th century. It is 100% completely and entirely WRONG to claim homosexuality is necessarily a sin just because the Bible says so. That view is NOT a necessary part of the Christian faith. I am a Christian and I judge sin based only on the commandments of loving God and loving your neighbor as yourself. These were the commandments of Jesus that I follow, why? Because they make logical sense. Homosexuality does not transgress either of these commandments, therefore it is most definitely NOT sinful in my Christian view.
I actually AGREE WITH SAMUEL for like the FIRST TIME EVER lol. Christians should give logical reasons why things are sinful not throw an ancient book out attempting to claim it is sufficient justification. Mindlessly throwing a book does huge damage to a faith that is supposed to be based on discernment guided by a living spirit, not the regurgitation of words on a page. No wonder the unbelievers are so vehement, in many ways I completely understand their "frustration" and don't blame them for their exasperation.

What is North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Maldives, Mali, Iran, Yemen, and Eritrea, all of which have some form of law that is discriminatory against Christians.

But a lot of the LGBT teens that I've met in my state, haven't been bullied. Those that are religious...they aren't denying me my rights. They don't go out in public and say that gays will burn in hell. They keep to themselves.

People like you make me embarrassed to be part of a movement, I feel, has good intentions, but shitty members. On my off time I do reach out to the teens of the area, offering them hope. It's funny how you and other people see me as an anti-religious monster with the intentions of taking over the world and allowing gays to reign supreme. While that is an interesting dream, I do not support that dream as all I want is equality. Everywhere. In every continent. Every country. Every city. Ever piece of land humans exist upon. Now, while I do acknowledge the heinous violations of human rights in places like Uganda, as an American I believe that our country needs to get its ducks in a row first before this country attempts to help out other countries with humanitarian aid. Meanwhile, those countries that have successfully adopted equality such as a ananda can use their resources towards humanitarian aid in countries that kill people because of homosexuality. As such GLAAD's statements against him, the firing from A&E due to the comments, but there is one more thing: the show is now a means of spreading hateful ignorance. The people who support him will soon rally against equality, trying to put a stop to the LGBT community's movement. Because of the show is now a catalyst to the oppressive movement, it should be cancelled. Episodes past, present, and future. All because of one person's hate speech that will soon result in the regression of social justice in the country. I am perfectly willing to accept (and have never stated the contrary) that it is only a section - even a minority - of religious people who use their faith to argue against my lifestyle. Now that I have acknowledged that word for word, even though it's implicit and common sense, could we please agree that it IS a problem for those in the LGBT community that such religious bigotry exists?
I have never argued to destroy or eradicate religion, because everyone deserves their personal faith, and many people of faith are LGBT allies. If they use their faith as an excuse to argue against my rights, then fine, I'm going to label them a bigot, but I don't think religion itself is inherently bigoted; simply that a number of its adherents use it to find excuses for bigotry.

There's a lot of that word flying around here. I have endured the torment, and I'm sick of the ignorance and bigotry. Yes, his free speech was hate speech. He can say whatever he wants. The Government cannot "abridge freedom of speech." Phil Robertson is speaking his beliefs. But, if he was a Muslim he would be praised. Because we can't understand that freedom is for everyone.
I am not saying that we can only speak Christianity. What I am saying is that nobody should be bashed for speaking their beliefs. That's why people came to America in the first place. Hell, if speaking your Christian beliefs is wrong then we better shut down all the churches! Because they're wrong and they can't speak!

What does any of this even mean?
Oh yeah, Christians are so badly persecuted. It's not like the Church was one of the premier world powers for the best part of 15 centuries, most of which it spent as the oppressor.
The book really doesn't do itself any favours in the "inviting ridicule" department.
Homosexuality is not about being combative or hateful, it's about loving someone that's the same gender. The hatred of bigotry is sadly a necessary factor as long as bigots exist. I will argue vehemently against those who are anti-gay because that's how debating works. I don't agree that we should "live and let live" when there's a hugely substantial, well-financed, usually religious lobby that is actively trying to take away my rights.
As long as a religious lobby exists to oppose gay equality, religion will deserve to be undermined. I reserve that right and I will not be suppressed by any personal offence you take. This is a debate which affects one of the core elements of my life.
WHY? Why is it so? "Because my book says so" is not conducive to debate. You're always about the personal offence you take from the Bible being undermined, but the undermining happens because you never justify the REASON that homosexuality is a sin. And deep down that's the frustration that I, as a gay person, have with the religious community.

You both are confusing infallible text dogma with Christian theological necessity. It is NOT a necessity in the Christian religion to interpret the Bible as God's infallible word. This is a DOGMA begun by the CATHOLIC CHURCH back in the 4th century. It is 100% completely and entirely WRONG to claim homosexuality is necessarily a sin just because the Bible says so. That view is NOT a necessary part of the Christian faith. I am a Christian and I judge sin based only on the commandments of loving God and loving your neighbor as yourself. These were the commandments of Jesus that I follow, why? Because they make logical sense. Homosexuality does not transgress either of these commandments, therefore it is most definitely NOT sinful in my Christian view.
I actually AGREE WITH SAMUEL for like the FIRST TIME EVER lol. Christians should give logical reasons why things are sinful not throw an ancient book out attempting to claim it is sufficient justification. Mindlessly throwing a book does huge damage to a faith that is supposed to be based on discernment guided by a living spirit, not the regurgitation of words on a page. No wonder the unbelievers are so vehement, in many ways I completely understand their "frustration" and don't blame them for their exasperation.

I just want to add something I seen online that I completely agree with.
What he said, he supports the oppression of a small group of people. That is not an opinion, that is bigoted hate speech.
If that were the case, that implies that anyone who holds an opinion over a minority means that they are committing "bigoted hate speech."
That would mean that if someone disagrees with the the Palestinians controlling land of what is currently Israel is committing hate speech, and the converse, which, of course is ridiculous.
This man is entitled, as mentioned throughout this entire thread, to say whatever he pleases. There are people all over the media (Fox News, Rush, etc) who say things like that, and guess what, they're still on the air, because it's their opinion, it's not "bigoted hate speech."
In short, as Dakota's said, you're fighting for "social justice" in situations in which you simply don't belong.
I have endured the torment, and I'm sick of the ignorance and bigotry. Yes, his free speech was hate speech. He can say whatever he wants. He can say he thinks homosexuality is just as bad as bestiality. He can say according to his god and bible that I'm going to hell. He has the freedom to say whatever the fuck he wants, but that doesn't mean it's not bigotry.

Using one own's religious beliefs (and I don't just mean Christians, but all religions) to deny the rights of a certain minority group, in this case, LGBT, that is definitely considered bigotry, ignorance, and homophobia. Also, any one who can't see that is also a bigot.
Two things are wrong here:
1. He himself is not denying anyone of any right.
2. The "Anyone who disagrees with what I say is X" logic is, well, not logic.

I'd just like to point out that the laws in Leviticus are no longer valid. When Jesus died for our sins it made the law unnecessary. I'd also like to say that I don't hate gay people, I don't believe what they believe but I still respect their opinion. And if that's what they truly want to believe than I can't stop them.

You still don't get it. Yes, the Old Testament is part of the Bible as a whole, but it's only there for historical purposes in the eyes of the Church. It is there for a record of the old laws which were followed before the coming of Christ. How many times does this have to be repeated before it gets through to you?

Here's what's interesting: Equality isn't achieved when everyone has the same views on a certain topic. Phil, nor anyone else's personal beliefs necessarily get in the way of this "equality." What gets in the way are the laws in a government and strong stigmas in society that prevent in.
So in short, everyone doesn't have to agree with you for equality to exist.

Let's take the African American example here. Lets say we are all in the 1960's again. Phil makes the claim that African Americans shouldn't have equality? I'm pretty sure massive protests would occur, the show would be cancelled in a heartbeat, and he would be seen as a complete racist. So, if this is right for African Americans to do, why is it wrong for LGBT to do? And again, he doesn't have to be in political power. If he says he is against LGBT equality, he is contributing to the oppression of the LGBT culture. Much like he would be for African Americans if he said he is for slavery.

I guess the racism on Duck Dynasty can also be discussed. Please inform me how African Americans are not equal? They are allowed to vote. They are no *longer* slaves. They aren't thrown out of restaurants. Which, by the way, is a major discrimination issue in the LGBT community. I have heard members of LGBT be asked to leave restaurants, denied admission into movie theaters, and refused service at hotels. I have not heard a single story like that involving a racial issue. The last racial issue I heard of was the Trayvon Martin incident, which I agree was due to racism. This isn't the 60's anymore. African Americans have equal rights and I am extremely happy they do, but now it's time for LGBT to gain equality.

Edit: I forgot. We have an African American as the fuckin PRESIDENT! If that isn't equality than I don't know what is. People of different races are accepted into society. People of different sexual orientation hasnt.

The KKK is still around, yes. But I don't think they've killed people in years. Whereas homosexuals in certain countries are being killed today. LGBT teens in America are committing suicide because of homophobic discrimination. That's going on right now as we speak. In fact a friend if mine just committed suicide because his parents didn't approve of his homosexuality. I would say since the inauguration of President Obama this country has been accepting of the African American culture whereas a majority of states have denied LGBT the rights they deserve. 18 out of 50 states have legalized LGBT equality. And we are living in the "home of the free"? In 32 states LGBT couples can't marry, can't visit their loved ones in hospitals, etc.

Millions? The KKK has killed many people and not an insignificant number at that, but millions? Millions died from slave trade, but at most, the KKK has killed many thousands of people.
I do agree with you. I think his comments on African Americans are much worse. As bad as it sounds many of his viewer base agree with him on the topic of homosexuality, but most wouldn't come out be rampant racists. I think we should be more outraged about this appearance of racist ideas that sound like they're straight from the 60s. He basically said African Americans loved living under Jim Crow laws. Thats awful and is a disgraceful.
On the topic of Duck Dynasty being canceled, at least here in the southland, too many people like the show for it to be canceled without strife.

Please note that my post does not say that LGBT discrimination is worse or lesser than racism. LGBT rights is purely in a highlight in the USA as it should be. I'm not saying blacks and whites are perfectly in harmony and running around with equal rights, but as it stands, in certain cases, members of the LGBT community are discriminated against much more than minorities. In most places, black people, mexicans, asians, etc. are accepted. Gays and Lesbians have not yet reached this level of acceptance in America. This is why I think that Phil Robertson has been the focus of much outrage due to his remarks on LGBTs rather than black people. Both remarks are bad. One is just more highlighted right now.

The Rodney King case and the LA riots were in the early 90's. Back when racism was still prevalent. Times have changed since then and there isn't much racism anymore, yeah, one hears the occasional case of a white police officer beating up a black person because they're black, but that's the case of personal racism. National racism pretty much died out. Meanwhile, homophobia is still prevalent in the nation today and a good amount of countries in the world.

Times have changed since then and there isn't much racism anymore, yeah, one hears the occasional case of a white police officer beating up a black person because they're black, but that's the case of personal racism. National racism pretty much died out. Meanwhile, homophobia is still prevalent in the nation today and a good amount of countries in the world.

Just because your president is this or that race does not mean that racism is dead.
Race and sexuality are two different things! You can have both, you are not one or the other. You can African-American and heterosexual which is a race and sexuality but you were born into the African-American race. You can have another African-American who is not heterosexual he or she is also born into that race and has a sexuality also, different yes but one.
Agent, you are more than your sexual preference. Plus th LGBT with members like you ready to argue I don't think most would be too accepting when bullied all the time by people who argue. Plus you and I both know why some disagree with the LGBT.

Well, I noticed my contradiction in an earlier post. I assumed that since we have an African American president that there would more acceptance and less racism, then I remembered that because he became President there was an increase in racism. Remember how people were claiming because he is of African American decent that he isn't an American citizen? How people demanded to see his birth certificate in order to justify his citizenship based on his race?
So while I do correct myself in saying that having an African American as President did not kill out racism, in the present year of 2013 (and 2014), homophobia is seen as a much bigger issue. Personally it is for me as I endure discrimination on a daily basis for being an open homosexual. Even the family dinner with extended relatives two nights ago I was called out because of my sexual orientation. Luckily my parents are very accepting and demanded that the extended family apologize and possibly change their anti-gay stance. As family, I don't see why they should even deny me liberty because I am gay.
But, in the original topic, homophobia is much more prevalent than racism today. Racism is still out there,just not as widespread as homophobia.

Well, I noticed my contradiction in an earlier post. I assumed that since we have an African American president that there would more acceptance and less racism, then I remembered that because he became President there was an increase in racism. Remember how people were claiming because he is of African American decent that he isn't an American citizen? How people demanded to see his birth certificate in order to justify his citizenship based on his race?
So while I do correct myself in saying that having an African American as President did not kill out racism, in the present year of 2013 (and 2014), homophobia is seen as a much bigger issue. Personally it is for me as I endure discrimination on a daily basis for being an open homosexual. I have no idea if anti-homosexaual attitudes are more prevalent than racism today or not. But I do know that political correctness are more prevalent which brings up this case of Phil Robertson. You say something that is not alligned to the mainstream and all of a sudden people are ready to pound you like dogs. Homophobia is a word of hypocrisy. Homo-means same so it fits for the word homosexual of same sexual desire but the phobia- part means a fear of. Most who disagree on homosexuality are far from scared of it.
You face discrimination on a daily basis? Hmm, and what is your reaction to it? If you are a rude person and people don't like you then you don't blame their discontemp on your sexuality but I hope that is not the case. Your family loves you. You think me and my family agree on everything? I'm Christian and artistic and strictly city whereas they are quite the opposite. The thing with family is that you may not like everything they do and they may not like everything you do, you don't just banish them from your sight. Your family is not denying you liberty. In fact I say the opposite. Lately it seems only thse who are politically correct and pro-gay can have a say in this modern world which is hypocrisy for speech.
Look at Phil Robertson or even earlier, the Miss California, both asked about their opinion, both gave an honest answer, both met with harsh critics and the critics praised. How is that fair?

I searched phobia on Google and this is what I came across in the first four online dictionaries I chanced into:
Phobia (n): an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.
Aversion (n): a strong dislike or disinclination.Phobia (n): an extremely strong dislike or fear of someone or something.Phobia (n): an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.
Aversion (n): a strong dislike or disinclination.Phobia (n): an extreme fear or dislike of a particular thing or situation, especially one that cannot be reasonably explained.
I checked two for Homophobia:
Homophobia (n): an extreme and irrational aversion to homosexuality and homosexual people.
Aversion (n): a strong dislike or disinclination.Homophobia (n): feeling, or inspired by a strong and unreasonable dislike of homosexual people.
From this I gathered that phobia, especially when referring to homosexuals, extends to more than just simple fear.
