View Full Version : Would you pay over the original price for a PS4?

It could be argued due to sales figures as well as popularity that getting your hands on a PS4 before Christmas at this stage is near to impossible. Some stores won't have much stock left, if any and really most stores now will maybe only get them in dribs and drabs instead of large orders.

Now many people have bought multiple playstations and done a rather smart thing, they've bought more than one and sold the others for double or even triple the asking price.

My question I guess is, would you ever pay more for a PS4 than shop price? Just so you could get it before the holidays?

Consider the following:

1. It's a console. Over time, the thing is only going to be outmatched by the PC hardware that's coming out every few months or so.

2. The specs. While, yes, the PS4 is similar to the Xbox One in terms of specs, I don't think I would really feel comfortable spending over the recommended retail price for something that is going to be obsolete in about a year or two.

Popularity aside, these are the two factors I would focus on. I wouldn't be looking to buy a PS4 for the holidays, even though I DO want one. It's like asking if you're willing to pay more than the suggested retail price for whatever new Apple product before the holidays JUST because it's popular. Of course it's popular, anything highly hyped and new is going to be popular; but that's going to be the case for mostly anything. It'll die down eventually.

As I said, these two factors are all I would focus on. To go over double or even triple the asking price is just asking too much because it would be ripping someone off BIG time.

Never, its a console, more will be made and price will go down, not up, therefore no.

Well according to a news article PS4s are 3.3x higher in demand than the Xbox One so I guess people will be desperate.

Nope. It's just another PS3. With a mix of Xbox 369 (what it sounds like.)
Wouldn't even pay original price.
I stick with PC.

I have my PS3 and Xbox 360.

I will be fine for the moment.

I'll probably be waiting for about a year so that the prices come down.

I'm receiving one and it was ordered a month ago. Things like game systems you really have to either pre-order or plan in advance cause this usually happens. I don't get how people haven't figured that out yet and then are willing to pay more than the starting price because they procrastinate.

No, actually. $400 is the most I would ever spend on a gaming console. Actually, that's a little steep in my opinion. Other than inferior tech, that's a big reason why I chose PS4 over Xbox One. An Xbox One is my rent for a month. Like I've said, I would skip this gen if I hadn't skipped last gen.

No way one of the biggest selling points for it was its lower price. Why pay more when you can just be patient. They don't even have that many games out for it right now that i wanna play.
