A US couple have been charged with assault and disorderly conduct after they threw food and called the police after a McDonald's refused to serve them hash browns with their meal.
But Michael and Nova Smith, from Mesa in the US state of Arizona, are not sorry for the scene they caused — or for calling the local police emergency hotline.
"I was barely able to hold myself back," Mr Smith told ABC News.
"If not for the 911 operator calling me back, I probably would have went berserk."
The couple said they returned to the McDonald's store when they realised their $1 hash browns were missing from the meals they ordered on Sunday morning.
"It's a meal," said Mrs Smith. "Just like you should get fries with your hamburger, we should have got our hash browns with our breakfast sandwiches."
But the manager at the fast food outlet refused to give the couple hash browns or a refund.
That is when Mrs Smith threw her bag of food at them, allegedly hitting an employee in the arm.
"That was out of frustration which I probably shouldn't have done, but I did," she said.
Mr Smith called police and walked behind the counter to confront the manager.
But a customer and a McDonald's employee also called the cops, and when they turned up it was the Smiths whom they charged.
Both are due in court December 30th. They could face fines for their misdemeanour offences.
