Is anybody else on VT into heavier, more extreme subgenres of metal? I personally am starting to discover things like black metal, doom metal and am enjoying it. I can't be the only one, right?

Now I feel less ridiculous knowing there are people who have a similar music taste on this site. What bands are you into? I started listening to Dimmu Borgir and wow, I gotta say, this is good stuff. Good thing people generally dislike it. Makes me feel unique. Any suggestions? And I already know I need to eventually listen to Cannibal Corpse as that's the one I see mentioned everywhere.

I love all sorts of music in the scope of metal. Post-hardcore/metal/black metal/mathcore/metalcor all really appeal to me. You are definitely not alone on VT by liking metal music.

I have never listened to Cannibal Corpse but yeah it's one that's mentioned a lot :P Alrighty then beginner's heavy metal. By the way, the some of the bands I listen to are rather obscure, if they're not to your taste or you'd prefer some more mainstream ones tell me :) I would definitely recommend Arch Enemy (doom/death metal), it's always been my favourite band and it's the first metal band I ever listened to. My favourite song by them is 'We Will Rise'. There's a really good Norwegian band called Irrbloss. A good power metal band is Kalmah. Some of Otep's stuff is really heavy, some of it is more like rock but I like her band in general. There's also The Agonist, their songs are interesting because their vocalist is able sing in high notes and deep death growl. Celtic metal doesn't appeal to everyone but if you want to try it I suggest Cruachan, Mael Mordha or Primordial. Mael Mordha isn't well known but it's worth a listen. Have fun! Let me know if you want some more bands :)

^.^ A7X!!! Omg I love them to death!!! I saw them live and I was glued and nearly cryed when they finished. Oh look up Cradle of filth for black metal and The Black Dahlia Murder for more of a faster metal.

You are so lucky!!! I want to see them again. I would sell my soul which is probably possessed by a demon of some sort, to see them. XD

On the topic of A7X?
What do you all think of their new drummer, Aaron Llejay?
I miss the Rev.

Arin? I think the guy has talent. Haven't witnessed any ballistic talent like the Rev's, but y'know, he's good in his own right. But yeah, it'd be cool to see if he could pull off some of the Rev's more chaotic drumming.

Damn, I've never even been to a concert. I feel so lame. :( A7X was in town in October but I was in school that day...dammit :(

I think Arin is doing a great job in the band, of course never as good as the Rev but still pretty good. For a second I thought he was Mesut Ozil, a german soccer player haha. Hey someday you will get to see them live. Just gotta wait for the right time.

The last album they put out recently M Shadows said they wanted arin to play powerful beats so he did. Matt also said that arin can easily play all the songs the rev can play which is pretty insane. I saw arin live in my last concert and though he was killing it. I also some A7x with Mike Portnoy from Dream theatre which was fucking unreal. But Arin can easily pull of the same things as the rev could

Hell yeah! I love black metal, some death metal, etc. The main ones I listen to are probably Skeletonwitch, Fallujah, Black Dahlia Murder, and Amon Amarth. Other than that, I'll dabble in other bands, but I usually stick to metalcore or Avenged Sevenfold or Ghost.

I like most metal. Fast drumming is awesome. There are lots of emotion and atmosphere in Black Metal. Try listening to Mayhem - View from Nihil. Give the singer a fair chance. You will soon be addicted to his sound.

I listened to it. At first, I thought to myself, "this isn't black metal." I kept listening and I was like "Ok, yeah, this is black metal." That was really cool. Thanks! :) Welcome to VT, by the way

Heavy metal

Damn right it is. Holy shit. This is one of those bands that's deceptively good. People generally don't think of female-fronted bands of being good, but this is one of those bands that breaks the stereotype. Thanks for the suggestions! :) Loving this stuff!

I don't think it's similar to anything I've ever heard. I don't know why, but "Blood" really stood out to me...Considering what the lyrics are, is that bad? haha :P

Heavy metal is pretty much my life aha. I like some extreme metal - mostly death metal though, I've never been a fan of black metal or anything like that.

If anything, I'd love to recommend:

Anciients - Extreme Progressive Metal, kinda reminds Mastodon.
Ne Obliviscaris - Says the Metal Archives Extreme Progressive Metal, but it's WAY MORE. I recommend Forget Not of theirs.
Persuader - Power metal; gotta recommend my fave band :3 Power metal with thrash elements. The vocalist kinda sounds like Kirsch from Blind Guardian.
Cynic - First album is more death-oriented, second is more progressive.
Obscura - Technical Death. It's... amazing.
Lastly... Ol' Opeth. Their earlier albums are Progressive Death/ Melodic Death.

Have fun in music heaven. Rock on! \m/

i like heavy metal/metal core/thrash metal/and obviously black metal
Trivium is doing a great job with thrash metal and heavy metal.
and about black metal i gotta say that it's probably the most heaviest sub genre of metal with extreme growls, although i don't like the content and the lyrics, just listen to it
Gorgoroth is my favorite black metal band
