View Full Version : Private messaging restrictions

I was about to send a fellow user a private message when I received a notification that because my post count is under 100, I was not able to send any private messages to other users besides moderators/administrators.

I believe this restriction to be a bit ridiculous. Perhaps make the post limit restriction be 10 or even 15? I would rather prefer no post limit restriction, but I could see why this restriction exists in the first place.

I share the same sentiments too! But it is still a great site!

We have that limit because, being the internet, there will always be someone bad out there to get you. Whether this be pedophiles or someone trying to sell you something, an internet forum such as this is a great way to target teenagers.
If we had the minimum post amount set to any lower, it would be far too easy for people to "spam" their way to that number. 100 is a good amount because Administration will know whether the person is here for good reasons or bad reasons and they will be able to react accordingly before they get to the stage of sending private messages.
This might seem a bit harsh, but it is in place to help keep you safe. And honestly, it shouldn't be too hard to reach 100 posts. Just find something that interests you and have an input.

Initially I shared your view but gradually I understood the point of 100 posts.
Well, cheer up dude.
You'll easily reach 100.
:) :) :)
Good luck!

I've seen this complaint quite a lot since I've been on the site and I can guarantee you that it won't be changed any time soon. Try reading this (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=153812) brief stickied FAQ for a reason as to why, since you're not the first and won't be the last to bring this up.

There are a lot of ppl who are only interested in PM
rather then forum posting. In another forum the quota
is only 50 and one guy admitted that he was spamming
his way to 50 to PM. I see lots of noobs suddenly stop at
50 "me too!" type spam posts.
Then I see they got banned shortly after that most likely
for whatever they were sending in PM.
Personally I am here to post. I don't think I have ever
sent a PM except to reply to a few I received.

Well, there was a time when it was 25, then 50 and now that it's 100 and has been for awhile, it's a good thing. 100 legit posts aren't hard to get and may take 2 or 3 days, it's not a massive deal and if you're here for the right reasons I'm sure you won't mind that.
