I'm 19 now. For years whenever i've been given instructions at a job or whatever I kind of "zone out" and i have to say "sorry what did you want me to do?" I get it the second time. And walk away remembering half of it and forgetting some of it.

I'm just wondering if anyone else gets this and if it's an issue I should be getting checked out?

just sounds like bad memory, maybe try some simple memory exercises, that might help.

Has this always happened? If it's a long term problem, then there are 2 explanations. Either you might have some processing/memory issue, or you''ve got some attentional issue.

If this is a new development, it might just be that you're not applying enough focus/attention/concentration. New jobs and new tasks require new levels of mental alertness and involvement. Make the conscious attempt to stay focused and that should help.

It happens to me, too so I know how it is. I started a new job back in December and people would tell me to do something or get something and I'd just zone out and think what did he want me to do again?

I agree with Sam that the new environment can make it difficult to remember things and catch on what's being done. I've been working for 2 months now and got more comfortable with the area and have a sense of what I'm doing now.

I don't think you have some issue or disorder. People tell me to do something in everyday life and I'm usually fine but its just work for some reason. That seems to be the case for you right?

This may or may not help, but when someone gives you instructions repeat what they just said. Maybe if you hear yourself say it again it can help you remember it better.

This isn't much of a problem with me as much now but I say allow yourself to get more comfortable with the job and try my idea of repeating what they say out loud.

Try some 'home remedies' before rushing to a doctor. Going to the doctor so quickly isn't the answer for all our problems. It should be after you've exhausted trying to fix the problem yourself.
