I was talking to my one gender fluid friend about sexuality and gender,

so heres my question:

Suppose a gay male changes his gender through HRT, would he then become straight or is he still gay?

I personally feel that this individual is still gay regardless of HRT but my gender fluid friend said the person is straight, what do you think? knowing this site this will be extremely biased but i would like to know why you believe what you think, thanks

If said individual changes their gender through Hormone Treatments, then they would become heterosexual. However, they are entitled to consider themselves however they wish. Now, if the individual still has an attraction to men after the HRT, they would be heterosexual, but if their attraction changed to women, they would still be homosexual.

See I dont get that, youre still technically a male after HRT but yeah, we are all entitled to call ourselves whatever we like

Well, that would be before the sex reassignment surgery, yes (since HRT obviously doesn't make new sex organs out of old ones).

I do not think a person has to be 100% anything.

I think our labels are insufficient. It is much more meaningful to simply say what gender a person identifies with and what gender(s) they are attracted to as opposed to trying to fit them into some narrow label.

No matter what you do to yourself you are still the gender you were born as. If a homosexual male decides to go under the knife for sexual-reassignment surgery and or undergoes vigorous hormone therapy that male is still male despite the fact that his body now has the looks, contours, or genetilia of a female. In short a homosexual male who switches genders and still likes males romantically to the average eye if they know not of his past is heterosexual, but given the fact of him being born male if known he is still homosexual but one who changed his gender to be a part of a heterosexual relationship. The whole process and idea sounds a bit confusing and slightly ludicrous in my opinion but fair to say the least. Although given that I have questioned my own gender most of my life I find labels totally reductive.

It's not your call.

The assumed logic that we get to label others annoys me.

As a pansexual boi who's going to transition to a more masculine appearance - I'm still pan. My sexuality quite literally has no influence on my gender.

For some, this changes.

The only way you can EVER know, is to politely ask a trans* person their sexuality and accept their terms of how they define it - You don't get input.

Well, the person identifies as female and is then heterosexual. But it's more how that person identifies his/her sexuality and gender, than our opinion on what the person is.

Gender is only a social construct.

I have often wondered about this question and there is a lot of grey area. This is partly because it is hard to answer the question of when their gender actually changes and is it what they identify as, or is what body parts they have? Also does do they continue to like guys, or do they then like gals? It really depends on the situation, the person, and what they identify as. But at the end of the day, it is not up to us to decide what they are. However they identify is what they are. End of story. We don't have the right to put labels on other people.

There is no scientific proof that gender physically exists.

changing one's sex does not change one's sexual prefrences.
