It's hurting most probally because there is too much friction between your hand and your penis and it causes heat and a burning sensation. The easiest solution is lubrication, vaseline, hand cream, miosturiser all work great. Just don't ever use any soaps or conditioners.

You can use lotion. Lotion is just as good as lube. Yes do not use icyhot. Not the best.

I think that lotion is a better choice. If it hurts then you are probably going about it to rough so to reduce friction and pain it might be a better choice to use lube
