so here's the deal:
I've known this girl for five years and we've been good friends for two. In that time, we've gron pretty close and I think it's safe to say that she's one of my best female friends and I'm one of her best male friends. I'm almost certain that she only sees me as a friend but I've started to like her as more than that. Should I ask her out? I don't want to ruin the friendship that we already have.

As much that you think nothing will change if its not reciprocated there is the likely chance it will. As soon as you put your emotions or feelings out through physical(kiss) and verbal(telling her) the relationship will change, for good or for bad.
