I know a lot of people, teenagers with depression and other mental conditions mostly, find a sort of solace or connection in music. Sometimes it's strong or influential enough to help them through dark times, and even to keep them from committing suicide. Does anyone here have specific songs, or perhaps bands in general that helped you through some shit?
I'll go first.
I have depression, sometimes it gets pretty bad, especially in the past year, but whenever I felt down, or felt like self-harming, or didn't know how to handle what I was feeling, Can You Feel My Heart by Bring Me the Horizon really brought me back down to earth. I felt like I could relate to it so deeply, "I'm scared to get close, but I hate being alone. I long for that feeling to not feel at all. The higher I get, the lower I'll sink. I can't drown my demons, they know how to swim". I could relate to all of it. I find myself scared to get too close to people, to be too open. But I hate being by myself, with my own thoughts. I would often wish I wouldn't feel anything, instead of the pain or the sadness or the helplessness. And I would often try to find some sort of escape through things like cutting, I tried drinking, smoking.
Another song, which I found mostly something helpful to talk myself out of having suicidal thoughts, is No Pity for a Coward by Suicide Silence. That song is basically just saying that in the end, with a gun in your hand, the only one who can save you is yourself. You could do the cowardly thing and kill yourself, or you can man up and face your problems.
Those are mine, I am very interested to hear all of yours! I'll likely look them up, too. I'm always looking for more good music.

I found that I was able to find the words for the way I feel in songs "Bother," by Stone Sour; "A Day In My Life," by Five Finger Death Punch; and "War is the Answer," by Five Finger Death Punch.
"Bother" and "A Day In My Life" help me phrase my overwhelming sadness when I'm at my lowest in my depressed state. "War is the Answer" helps me with an energy boost.

Coming clean by Green Day, definitely... because the lyrics are about coming out and coming clean with everything, and that's what I really needed to do.
Another one is Walking Alone by green day (Not boulevard of broken dreams, the song Walking alone)
The chorus just speaks to me..
"Sometimes I need to apologize.
Sometimes I need to admit that I ain't right.
Sometimes I should just keep my mouth shut, or only say hello.
Sometimes I still feel I'm walking alone. "

Trashed and Scattered and Warmness on the Soul, both by Avenged Sevenfold, are inspiring. Trashed and Scattered is basically like "fuck you" to those that put you down and that you'll be strong. Warmness on the Soul is just really beautiful and makes me think of my girlfriend who would be devastated if I were to self-harm or kill myself, which has stopped me from caving into desires to cut.

A bunch of Green Day songs have helped me. One big one is Road to Acceptance. Some other ones by Green Day are Walking Alone (like the other guy said), Minority, Know Your Enemy, and 99 Revolutions. They didn't all help me through a tough time but rather helped me figure out my values a bit.

I'm gonna be honest and say I really dislike Falling in Reverse because Ronnie is a piece of shit human being, but I'm sure the rest of them are decent people. And if those songs helped you through some shit, then keep listening. Sometimes music's power transcends the trappings of the scumbag artist.

Can You Feel my Heart by BMTH is a good one.
For me, Nine Inch Nail's Hurt and Against Me's Because of the Shame helped me emotionally through some break ups. Also, Unwritten Law's Get Up pulled me through my struggle with weight issues and inspired me to become more active.

Oh good lord, I had some dark days. Once I almost cut my wrists with a butterknife but decided against it for the sake of my sanity, as well as Mom's. We both are acute hemophobes(a Deathly fear of blood) and forgot about the butterknife. Later I was making a sandwich and tripped and almost killed myself anyway. I'm such a klutz! Anywho, here's my list.
Skyscraper. - Demi Lovato
Part of Me. - Katy Perry
Stronger. - \
People like Us. - Kelly Clarkson aka my saviour
Dark Sides. - /
La La La. - Naughty Boy ft. Sam Smith
That's it. I keep them in a folder called 'Motivatio'. Also I've mentioned and recommended these to the guy who made the 'I tryed to kill myself last night' thread.

I usually listen to rock, but when I have bad times, I'm using them:
- Ben E. King - Stand By Me
- P.Diddy- Dirty Money ft. Skylar Grey: Coming Home
- James Blunt - Bonfire Heart (it's a memory for me...)

Elaborate Please? And read the title of this thread. Insulting artists and bands that SAVED or HELPED someone through a dark time is not the brightest idea, or logical. SO before you decide who is or isnt a bad human being, how about you check yourself first. Thanks.

Music has always been my best emotional outlet, and the number one thing I resort to when I'm going through something. I have so many songs I could list but I'm going to try to keep it kinda short.~
Smile by Eyedea & Abilities.
Paradise by Eyedea & Abilities.
Boston by Augustana.
Sing for the Moment by Eminem.
Mockingbird by Eminem.
Guarantees by Atmosphere.
Trying to Find a Balance by Atmosphere.
Sunshine by Atmostphere.
God Loves Ugly by Atmosphere.
Shoulda Known by Atmosphere.
And the one that's helped me the most this year, despite all the hate it's managed to get, is Same Love by Macklemore.

He abuses his girlfriend(wife?), and his fans. Threw mic stands into the audience at a show, requiring multiple fans to get stitches and getting all heavy music banned from all six flags forever. He kicks fans out of concerts for wearing Escape the Fate shirts, and he spits on fans. He kicked I See Stars off his tour for having weed, and then kicked audience members out of the concert that was in I See Stars' home town when they were chanting asking for I See Stars to play.
Oh and when he kicked I See Stars off the tour, they offered to play for free, not wanting to let down their fans, which Ronnie agreed to. Ronnie made them sign an agreement to not tell venues or fans about it because he cares about money more than the art.
He's also known for threatening assault to band members and tour managers, and his tour manager assaulted I See Stars'.

I like how you didn't quote the whole thing. You missed half of the argument. Also you are talking about his past, are you saying that all people dont deserve a second chance and dont change? You mean to tell me you've never acted out in your whole life? Also, its a business, the world revolves around money. What do you expect? How many music artists have done things that you have listed? Most of them. Can you blame him for having a grudge against the people that kicked him out of his own band? AND Incase you havent heard, he is touring with Escape the Fate this Winter, so most of the points you made no longer apply.
One last thing, you still didnt answer the first part of my question, considering it is your own thread, so ill say it again
Why insult peoples' bands/people that "Helped you through a dark time" i.e saving their lives to an extent?
I don't understand.

Why insult peoples' bands/people that "Helped you through a dark time" i.e saving their lives to an extent?
I don't understand.
Ok, here, I'm quoting the whole thing, and I'll address every point.
1. Yes I'm talking about his past. Literally everything he's done is in the past. That's how time works. Second chances? He got his second chance when he got out of jail. But he immediately wasted it but continuing to be a raging douche. Yes, I've acted out in my life, but I've never physically assaulted people who loved me, or spat on them, or any other sort of abuse.
2. It's a business, so it's okay to only care about money? No, that's not how morals work. "Oh it's okay that I exploit these people, you see, it makes me money! So it's okay!". Something is not automatically okay just because you turn a profit. The music industry is supposed to be about art. Music is an art. Ronnie cares more about money than his shitty rap-core. Therefore, he is a sellout and disgrace to everyone else in that music scene.
3. How many artists have done these things? Approximately none. Seriously. No artist I listen to has done anything close to the amount of shit Ronnie has. Oh he's a rockstar? Then it's fine for him to beat his girlfriend and injure fans. Two of my favorite bands, Of Mice & Men and Bring Me the Horizon, both their lead vocalists have had one sort of "scandal" like that, but in both cases it's unclear what actually happened. And when anybody brings up either one, I don't act like it's okay because "Oh, musician. They're allowed to do bad things". I acknowledge that they did a shitty thing. Sure people make mistakes, but that fact doesn't automatically excuse them of the consequences.
4. Can I blame him for having a grudge against his former band? First of all, yes I can, and secondly, that wasn't my point. My point is that he kicked people out of a concert, FOR WEARING SHIRTS OF A DIFFERENT BAND. That'd be like if Dayshell kicked me out of a concert for wearing an Of Mice & Men shirt. That's absurd. And Escape the Fate had no choice but to kick him out. He was on parole and couldn't legally leave the state. A band kinda has to tour to be able to survive as a band. So, Ronnie has no right to be mad about it, he got his own ass arrested for being involved in an altercation that led to a kid dying. Just because he's touring with EtF and "burying the hatchet", that discounts none of my previous points. None of them even had anything to do with EtF.
5. And to answer your point from the previous post, perhaps the only real point you've made so far, I guess you're right, it's not totally awesome of me to talk shit about a member of a band who may or may not have saved someone's life. But by luck of the draw, you happened to mention the one band who's lead singer I hate with a burning passion. I wouldn't have done with with any other band.
To conclude, Ronnie is a bag of hot street trash, Escape the Fate forgiving him (or vice versa) is likely more of a PR thing than them really liking him. I said in my previous post that even music made by douchebags can help some people, and that's great.
To everyone else, I apologize for this debate. It's bordering on off-topic, but I can't stand when people stand up for celebrities who are just utterly terrible human beings. Carry on with your day.

...no one really cares... If the band helped someone through a hard time of their life then they are obviously doing something right... And Tony is right, the world evolves around money and buisness, even though it isnt right it happens, so yeah it kind of is an excuse to do crazy and horrible things. Also, just because Tonys saying that people deserve a second chance doesnt mean he likes Ronnie... and if you didnt want to be off topic and everything then you shouldnt have brought it up in the first place -.- there are a lot more people who do so many more terrible things than just Ronnie so why are you not bashing on them instead of a person who helped someone through a dark time in there life...

One is Green Day. No one song in particular, but a few were Jesus of Suburbia, Letterbomb and everything on Nimrod. They're just a great band and I love that a lot of their music isn't really about being hurt, or specific situations, but just generally about being kinda fucked up and lost. And it's not whiny and depressing, it's almost upbeat.
Other one is My Chemical Romance, but I don't know that they really helped me through a hard time when I was really in love with them. I think they actually help me more now that I don't listen to them a whole lot. When I was really into them, that was a happy time in my life. And listening to them now takes me back to those times and helps me deal. Again, no specific song.

He's not a band, but Example. I've been a fan of his since I was nine. Six years. Yeah, he's helped me through a lot of stuff. Most of which I can't even really talk about. It's not even just his music that's helped me, it's him himself. Like, his interviews and his videos and his tour diaries and stuff. Sometimes he's the only thing that can make me smile....
Yeah. Haha. I love him a whole lot.
You guys have some amazing tastes in music, btw! Better than some of the crap in the charts nowadays.

"Waiting For the End" by Linkin Park. The song comforts me whenever I'm sad, while paramore songs helps me calm down when i'm angry
Waiting for the end to come
Wishing I had strength to stand
This is not what I had planned
It's out of my control
Flying at the speed of light
Thoughts were spinning in my head
So many things were left unsaid
It's hard to let you go
Sitting in an empty room
Trying to forget the past
This was never meant to last
I wish it wasn't so
I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
All I want to do
Is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got
