Microphone issues

So I have two microphones that are connected to a tape recorder/player for music practice purposes. The right channel records perfectly well but the left channel doesn't seem to record. It previously has worked. It's not the microphone itself. I connected it to my computer and tested it; it works fine. So my question is - what are some possible reasons the left channel won't record?
