I don't think it has to be sexual persay, but they do generally relate to attractions/turnons.
Edit: I take it back:
A.J., a fetish is something that is REQUIRED for arousal and orgasm. That means that without it, nothing happens for you. Do you absolutely NEED it to perform?
There's a difference between 'attraction' and 'fetish'. You can be attracted to anything and it's OK, it's preference and personal taste. A fetish is considered a 'abnormal' because without it, you can't do anything, your penis doesn't work. And, it's abnormal, because arousal is a physical thing, it's sort of automatic. The fetish becomes a prerequisite for a physiological process, so that's why it's abnormal. Can you J/O without needeng to see feet, or do you absolutley have to be looking at them to orgasm?

Ok then thanks Val. So what SAM is saying is that a fetish is required for sexual arousal?
Ok so I think I have a fetish and it's about armpits. Is this the most common fetish with ones body or is it common for it to be about another random person's body?

A fetish can be really about anything, well i dont think the armpit is the most common fetish on the body IMO.

I didn't think a fetish has to be required for arousal (unless that's what the dictionary says), but it's definitely something that increases ones state of arousal and is typically abnormal, though one could have a fetish for anything, even normal-sounding things. For example, maybe a guy has a fetish for large boobs. He could have sex with a small-breasted woman, but with a large-breasted woman it's somehow much better and he reaches orgasm faster, and it doesn't matter who the woman is. Is that considered a fetish?

Fetishism is when someone becomes preoccupied with something. For example, a preoccupation with women in knee-high leather boots. The object of a fetish can be anything. It may be needed for orgasm, but this is generally not the case.

A fetish is like you are attracted/aroused by a object/person or even a action.
for example Mr Small (made up name) could get attracted to feet.
they are not really required for sexual activities but if you do a activities without a fetish it may not be as pleasurable

My llife is now complete, I have validation from someone I truly respect. Thank you Val!
A fetish is something (usually non sexual) that is REQUIRED for sexual arousal. Without it, arousal (in guys, that's erection and orgasm) is impossible. That's what makes it a problem, normal sexual arousal, because it's a biological thing, doesn't require the presence of non sexual stimuli.
There's a difference between a requirement and a preference. You might prefer armpits or feet or women's underwear (or turtles, for that matter), but you don't NEED them, you just like them for whatever reason. With a fetish, you NEED them, and without them, you cannot perform.
Preferences, no matter how 'weird' are OK, you just like them and their presence enhances the experience. Requirements (non sexual, as fetishes are), by their very nature, usually are the result of something disturbed in development.
I doubt that whatever you're experiencing at 13 or 14 is a true fetish, I'd suspect that what you're feeling is just the result of the normal intensity of puberty.
