Does anyone else have parents that try and restrict your clothing choices? I mean, they can't physically force me to stop wearing the clothes I want to, but they always try and stop me indirectly. I don't understand this, I've proven to be independent enough, and I guess they just don't want to see me grow up so fast, but don't they see the way they're acting is alienating me from their way of thinking?

As long as you live under their roof, you aren't independent.. sorry. Maybe they just have your best interests in mind

I don't have restrictions on my clothing choices, but my clothing choice is relatively unstylish, at least to most others. So there's not much to restrict.

I know there is stuff I would not be allowed to wear.
Like t-shirts that had certain words or something like
a marijuana leaf on it. Clothing can send a message.
I guess your parents to not like the message they think
your clothing is sending.

I don't really wear stuff like that though, with graphics printed on them, I think they feel that I'm "too young" for my clothes or something, but it's not really extreme

I didn't think you did.
I was thinking of what my parents would object to.
But I still think that clothing puts out a message even
if there is not actual graphics involved. I know with
girls there are many more clothing options as well
as make up for parents to think acceptable or not.
I'm not taking their side, I'm just guessing how they are thinking.

My mother doesn't do that, but if I ask her if she likes something in the store she usually says no, but I get it anyway because in my opinion it's nice and appropriate for me! It depends how you wear the clothing, you could just say you'll layer it or something but afterwards not layer it ;)

My mom does. ALL the time. My father never has a problem with the clothes I want to buy (as long its in a certain price range) but with my mom, she wants me to wear everything that she likes. We always argue every time we go and shop.

Yeah that's what I do! I usually throw on a blazer or jacket over and take it off in school, but the problem is sometimes they surprise pick me up from school and you can guess the rest~

My mom only cares about having holes in the knees of my jeans. If my pants don't when I put them on, they do when I take them off because I live on a farm. Either way, I usually just cut them off into shorts, so its no big deal.

My mother won't even let me pick out my own clothes to wear each day. I'm not allowed to wear anything other than skirts, blouses and floor-length dresses.

My stepmom forces me to wear seasonal clothing that the season they are supposed to be in. In winter, if it's super Cold or not, she forces me to wear my winter coat to school. (Even tho I am in a warm building all day) so I have to carry a damn coat around all day in my arms Cuz nobody seriously has the hall time to use their lockers so we aren't required to use them. And in summer she forces me to wear shorts all the time but I don't want to Cuz my legs are the most hairy legs in the world.
