I've tried it once or twice, but didn't really like it. As long as you're careful what you put up there not to damage anything, you should be OK

Isn't ANYONE going to mention the other thing that often happens when you finger yourself?

Fingering will stimulate you to have a bowel movement. So; if you haven't gone in a while...you can do this to help you out.

As one who doesn't always get normal urges...I find it kinda helpful.

It also feels good; and I really don't think there's much harm to be done....just stick to one finger and you'll be fine.

Ok, in order to make this reply I read the Wikipedia article entitled "Prostate Massage". That gives a possible reason why I might have given up on this, i.e. my finger being too short.

On the subject of it being bad for you there seems to be no suggestion that would apply to most people but there do seem to be some risks.

For most people the risks seem to be the transfer of bacteria from the rectum to other places and possible damage to the rectal lining. These risks can obviously be mitigated by thoroughly washing your finger, or anything else you put up there, afterwards and making sure you have no sharp nails and plenty of lube. Don't underestimate the risk associated with transferring E.coli which naturally live in the rectum to the upper part of the digestive system, by from example handling food with unwashed hands. This can make you very ill. Damaging the rectal lining is also not good as this would then provide a means for bacteria to get in to the blood - anything that goes up there must be blunt and smooth but if doctors can use a gloved finger as part of a routine examination then the risks of doing that can't be high.

The article mentions some serious complications but these only apply to people who have an existing condition. If the prostate is infected, or cancerous, pressing on it can spread this to other places but this will only apply to a few people. Most young people will not suffer from either of these conditions.

When I started, it felt really uncomfortable. However, I now quite like the feeling. I do it ona more regular basis now as well. Sort of like a bit of foreplay with myself before I wank. You can do it as much as you like, but go about doing it safely
