View Full Version : Wireless Mouse not working

An USB port on the right of my laptop got damaged and therefore I can no longer use a regular mouse. So I've decided to use a wireless mouse but no matter what I do, the mouse would not work. I have the nano receiver connected to a port on the left, but the computer's not detecting it. I don't get a notification that a device has been installed successfully at all. I've tried connecting to both USB-ports on the left and re-plugging but that didn't do anything. I don't know if it's the port or the mouse. I don't think the mouse's battery is dead but I'm not 100% sure. I haven't used the mouse very much at all, so I don't think it's even dead yet. I also don't know about the port - is it not working because it's not used for nano receivers? I don't get it. The normal mouse won't plug in to any of the ports on the left. The ports on the left have a blue strip inside them; does that mean they don't work for nano receivers? Because when I plug in a flash drive, it works and is detected.
I don't want to use the touchpad as it's horrible and extremely difficult to do things that with a mouse would be easy. I want to use the wireless mouse but how can I get it to work?? I am literally distraught over all this and want to be able to use a mouse again :/
EDIT: Wireless mouse is Logitech Wireless Mouse M185
EDIT #2: The left ports are USB 3.0, does that change anything? I also remembered the iPod shuffle connector works on the left.

You could always get a usb extension cord and run it around the back of your laptop for the regular mouse. If not, you could've been unlucky and gotten a bad wireless mouse

Run it around the back of my laptop? What does that mean? o_0
I don't think it's the mouse...seems like it's the USB port...but I really don't know :/
I've had that mouse for a long time, I doubt I could return it. And there's no other laptop available that I could check with.
EDIT: Guess I could go with the USB extension cord.
Is there an extension cord that can plug into a 3.0 port on a laptop but have a 2.0 port which would work for the regular mouse? Because my mouse doesn't plug into USB 3.0 and the only 2.0 port is damaged. One end of the cord has to be 3.0 in order to be plugged into the laptop. The other end has to be 2.0 in order for the MOUSE to be plugged in. Although, could I use the nano receiver? Would it even work?

Not sure what you mean there, the 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0 are just data transfer speeds for usb, they're all the same plug in

Oh okay....but how come my regular mouse won't plug into the ports on the left side? It never was able to.
EDIT: never mind. I know why. the mouse inserter thing has black (metal?) stuff above the white strip and therefore the blue strip can't go in. Guess it won't work with an extension cord. I will have to start using a wireless mouse, provided I can get one to work -_-

USB ports are all the same no matter the version, the only difference is the materials used and drivers. it could just be a tight fit with your USB 2.0 mouse, know i sometimes have to force new flash drives to fit into my USB ports, but the flashdrives usually begin to fit properly after around the 5th or 6th use.

Nah, the USB 2.0 mouse won't fit in the USB 3.0 port at all. The blue strip that's supposed to get inserted into the mouse's port is blocked by the black metal things so it won't go in at all.
