I don't have much experience other than it being on my laptop, but can you put Ubuntu on a usb and bypass blocks at school. I know I can get into bios and change the boot sequence but I don't know if it will work.

I did it one, what you should know is that the blocks will be made at the server so it may make no difference. What I did was load it onto a USB and boot into it, but I still got blocked because the protection was at the server. In the end I just routed through a proxy and I got past the blocks. Me and my friends where mind of the school computer nerds so we could usually figure out how to get past things. Even the user passwords :)

What block are you trying to get around?

You want a different OS on your school-issued device? That might prove to be difficult, and if you do manage, you'll likely be expelled and/or have your device taken away.
You want to watch YouTube or look at another blocked site? Follow this Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/Unbanner) and choose any URL.
You want to watch porn/4Chan? I can't help you with that...

I agree with joe, it's all server sided so I wouldn't really bother, it would be a waste of your time.
