Hating school isn't really a reason to join the military however for that exact reason - that you used such a reason - I think you should go and give it a try

I hope you do realize that the military no longer accepts just anyone. If they had a choice between a brilliant, athletic person, and a daft, strong, high school drop out, they'll choose the former every time. If you can't handle high school and drop out -- I can tell you right now you won't make it in the Marines.

Definitely not. Most people entering the military do not have a real reason to do so.
What is your reason to put the country before your life?
Considering that we are one of the worst countries in the world, it seems messed up to "fight" for the country while killing innocent civilians in other countries.
But hey, if you want to help ruin the world, go ahead.

Argh! A lot of my friends are going to the Navy, unfortunately. Hopefully my AFA application goes well so I can head off to Colorado.

A little word of advice here from someone that is active duty Navy, really consider how much you actually want to be in the military because you still have a lot of schooling that is required within the military. There are all kinds of extra schools and "death by powerpoint" type of things that you will have to go through. Also, they are starting to encourage to enroll in college while you are still in. Just a thought.

Hate to say it, but being in the United States Military myself, if you hate school then the military is not for you. The U.S. Military actually is full of schooling, in different ways of form. At least in my branch (United States Air Force), you MUST attend college if you wish to gain rank above the pay-grade of E5 (Staff Sergeant). Even while you're in the military in order to do different things you must attend courses and other schools. I know in-order to even be promoted to E5 (Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Petty Officer 2nd Class) you must attend an academy.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Just because you dont like school doesnt mean you shouldnt atleast look into college, after i graduate i plan on going to college and being in the ROTC program that that Air force offers through the college. Im not an A student or really even a B student but even in the economy today jobs are being more demanding in at least having an Associates. For me personally when i get out of college ill be an officer because of the ROTC program and my schooling will be paid for, but i also be third generation Air Force so i want to follow most of my family. I think the Military is a great choice but its getting harder for people to join and leave, especially today and if you have any questions, DO A LOT OF RESEARCH!!!! as it is the recruiters job to get you to join to talking to someone thats in the military and you feel can give you honest answers is the first place to start. My plan if all goes well is to go to college for 4 years while doing the ROTC program and then do 6 years as an active duty officer. Right now im going to be majoring in Engineering but ill also be taking Search and Rescue classes so im still unsure if i want to be an Engineering Officer or a combat Rescue Officer.
