Isn't Australia considered to be in the Asian region for the World Cup qualifiers?
Anyway, there are so many awesome teams! It should be fun!

I'll like to see Brazil lifting the trophy for their sixth time!
Come on Brazil!

I'm pretty sure Oceania is its own region. They just had a playoff between 2nd place Oceania (New Zealand) and 4th place North America (Mexico) for one of the final spots in the tournament.

Yes Australia is part of AFC, the Asian Confederation of Football. I just split the nations continentally to cause less confusion. Unfortunately the sole representative of the OFC (Oceanic Confederation of Football), New Zealand, were eliminated 9-3 aggregate to Mexico.

Being American, of course I want my country to make it far, at least the Quarter finals, but I think that's asking for too much.:P

Yeah that's correct about Australia qualifying through Asia (just looked it up...was wrong myself here).

You should probably amend your original post to reflect that, since it's confusing....though that's what I thought it was too. :)

After 16 years Colombia qualifies again, and now it is ready to kick some serious ass. All my support goes to Colombia and the other COMNEBOL teams, let this world cup be claimed by South America again!

I also wouldn't mind an african team going far in the world cup, Ghana got robbed last world cup, I hope they make it to semis on this one.

Thanks to the very dirty action of Suarez, that was the robbing.

Both teams were responsible of unsportsmanlike behavior.

lknta50H5S4

The Ghanaian player clearly dived to give Ghana the free kick that lead to the handball save to begin with.

I'm not giving Suarez any slack, but Ghana also has to share the blame for not making it to the semis.

I'm pretty sure Germany, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Brazil and Belgium will go far. Also would like (and guessing) Columbia, Uruguay (they were awesome 2010!) and my own nation of 'Murica!

My guesses, though? Germany v.s Brazil in the final, despite the fact im hating myself for saying that, as I really hope a smaller country sneaks into the finals.

lol my team(Malaysia) is not even in the World Cup. Anyways, I predict the final will be a rematch of the Confederations Cup final. Spain vs Brazil. Only this time, Spain will win the match and claim their 2nd successive world cup and 4th international trophy in 6 years.

Colombia doesn't even have to try to pass, easiest group for my team, and if my calculations are correct they could easily get to semis!

About the other COMNEBOL teams:

Uruguay can pass if they take advantage of England's bad situation

Chile could pass if they win against Holland, but it is very hard.

Argentina doesn't even have to try as well.

Ecuador passes, a fight will be put up but they will pass.

If all five qualified COMNEBOL teams pass it would be awesome.

He's trying to say that the Fifa World rankings are not a true reflection of the performances of National teams. And I agree with him, to an certain extent.

Switzerland being one of the top 8 seeds is really odd and I feel like they don't belong there. I'm quite certain that they're good, no doubt, but not at the expense of Italy, England, Chile IMO.

But besides that, I think the seeding is good for the most part. Geographical separation IMO makes for an entertaining World Cup.

Fifa pick 8 top seed teams in order to put them into what should be groups of a similar level of quality. What I meant was that Switzerland were picked as a top seed team ahead of the likes of France etc, causing the groups to be quite imbalanced.
Although I do think there should be some kind of geographical separation so I guess in that aspect it's not too bad

Well France hasn't been doing all that well anyways, they barely qualified for the WC, England has also been losing their fair share of games. In my opinion Switzerland's group is actually very balanced, since all of the teams there can put up a fight. But I see your point, and some groups are actually complete jokes *cough* Argentina and Colombia *cough*.

At least the outsiders are excited about the cup I suppose.

No one is satisfied with the cup here in BRAZIL. The "País do futebol" is not excited for their OWN CUP. Why? Stadium constructions started late like hell, a lot of money ended up in the wrong pockets. Jesus, people are planning to protest and halt the games entirely, to stop the world cup.

I hate their hating and wanted to be excited about it but can't.

The WC this year has such revamped teams, dropping so many good players left and right, the squads seem so messed up. As for who's gonna win, it's Germany. No matter how much everyone has faith in Brazil, Germany is by far the best team, and while young they are the strongest side for sure. We'll just have to wait and see.

Cups played in the americas stay there buddy, Brasil has great chances, just look at how the confederations cup played off, so does Colombia and Uruguay (maybe another maracanazo?). And just remember, when the host country is desperate to lift the spirits of the people, they'll be willing to play a little dirty.

That was the past, this is now. Sure Brazil has a pretty good team and are the favorites and host, it doesn't necessarily mean they have the best chances. And I'd like to see Uruguay trash Brazil again, but I doubt it will be as a Maracanazo. But if that repeats....think of the former players and the current players...let alone people who see it, and how they will react.

Apart from that most rosters look pretty good as well as quite obvious choices, really glad that Italy took Ciro Immobile.

Honestly, Suarez should have gotten a lot more than the 9 games/4 months suspension he got. This is a third offense for biting, and he also had a blatant hand to keep a ball out the goal in another WC game. He's a lifetime cheater/dirty player, no matter how you look at it.

The USA getting out of that group at all is incredible.

I also think I am the only one that saw Costa Rica getting out of their group. They are really good, and I don't consider any of what they are doing an "upset."

it's not "9 games/4 months", it's 9 games AND 4 months.
9 games = he can't play in Uruguay's next 9 games.
4 months = this goes for Liverpool. he won't be able to play in the club for that time.
he also will have to pay 100000 dollars.

he got a red for keeping the ball out with his hand, that's a last resource you know.

he has made a few mistakes, but we will continue supporting him, i just hope he doesnt bite anymore lol

Yes, I know it is 9 games and 4 four months...I put the slash to differentiate the two parts of the penalty. Forgive me for not being grammatically correct enough for you.

The handball alone to save a goal, which yes the red card was given...alone is enough for me to ban him from the World Cup for life. This is a case where honestly the rule should be changed to just award the goal, rather than award a penalty (which was missed, and kept his team in the tournament). No idea how you can defend this blatant lifetime cheater. This is not a case of "making mistakes." This guy has a history of being a dirty player, and in the best interests of the game, he should receive a much much harsher penalty. Yes, that includes a lifetime international ban. Good player or not, he spoils any goodwill or fair play in the sport.

Ego? No, it's merely an opinion...which I am entitled to. Just like you are.

Where I see a cheater, and one that should actually be punished...you see "I know the family" and "Fifa didn't think so." Hardly unbiased there. We also know how "honest and uncorrupt" Fifa really is - they are going to let the stars and popular players off, and also take/earn money any way they possibly can. Hardly a defense for a lifetime cheater.

Why don't we get back to letting this thread be what it actually intended to be - about the World Cup. I stated my opinion (which I am entitled to) and you have gotten this way off track and distracting by trying to argue.

Move on.

oh dont worry, i forgive you ^^

the hand can be enough for you, but guess what? you're not the fifa, and you don't make the rules. he got the red card, ghana failed that penalty and uruguay won in the penalties in the end. end of the story.

i support him because i know him and his family, and i know what he has been through, you probably just know what the TV and the newspaper tells about him. i dont like some attitudes of him of course, but nobody's perfect.

lifetime ban? thanks, you made my day saying that, seriously.

Offcourse you know him and his family. lolzz you lived next to him?

Strong imagination.

You might be the only one who saw CR getting out of the group considering by world ranking it was the toughest group, slightly tougher than the United State's group. Now if the USA can just join CR in the QF's it would be a great run for the region.

Belgium 2 - 1 USA.

My lord, the U.S.A fought HARD, Tim Howard saving 16 gut-wrenching goals and Julian Greene scoring 1 in extra time.

I never felt sick to my stomach from a lost, but today made history :(.
