You can eat whatever you want as long as you exercise enough. I don't exercise much, because I'm lazy, so I do try to hold back on sweets and fats.
To stop myself from eating something really amazing looking and unhealthy I just tell myself, "You know if you eat that, you have to run. Yep, not walk, not even jog, you have to run. And do sit ups." That takes the urge away nicely.
For the days I'm feeling good enough to work out, I do: 40 calf raises, 20 squats, 30 leg lifts, 20 lunges, a fifty second wall squat, 25 sumo squats, 100 jumping jacks, and another fifty second wall squat for the leg workout, and then 20 sit ups, 20 pushups, some crazy intense stretches, and then 20 more sit ups.

I've always had pretty good self control when it comes to food. I can keep my cravings at bay easily. I started trying to get healthier at the beginning of the year, and since then I've started running at least mile (a lot of times I run 2, and walk 1. And I do sit-ups, squats, and push ups) 6 days out of the week, consume no more than 1400 hundred calories a day, and dropped most breads and sweets out of my diet. Oh, I also drink only water and occasionally tea, but nothing else. I eat a lot of fruits, veggies, yogurt, and lean meat. I've noticed that I have a lot more energy and feel all around better. :)

a healthy diet and excercise is the best way to get fit or stay in shape, but if you are gonna try to diet make sure you get a healthy 1 and 1 that will fit you and your lifestyle otherwise it wont work or you wont stick to it it takes lots of self control to diet the right way but most people dont realize its not what you eat but how much so if you like chocolate instead of eating 3 candy bars a day or whatever just eat 1, and actually instead of 2-3 big meals a day you are better off to eat smaller portions more times a day like have a good breakfast lunch and dinner but dont eat enough to fill you until the next meal eat a reasonable amount and then have a snack inbetween the next meal usually a fruit snack or something is good but honestly theres multiple diets out there and crap but like i said you have to find 1 that will help you achieve the goal your looking for and fit your lifestyle in order for it to work and dont expect changes over night, if you do you will just discourage yourself and give up on the diet. Also believe it or not eating a good breakfast is really very important to dieting because it jump starts your metabolism, but again taking in small portions perodicolly throughout the day is better then eating fewer but bigger meals this way your body can use the food your putting in your body and burn off the excess the whole goal to this is really to set yourself up so you are never saying "wow im really hungry or starving" or "wow im so full right now i dont want to even move"
sorry for the long post
