I was doing regular cutting mainly.
Then I got some therapy and counseling.
(Was in therapy and counseling already
for autism and other stuff).
Now it has been 90 days since I have cut.
But I still so things like slap myself across
the face or jab myself with a needle. Not
slapping hard enough to leave a major welt
and not jabbing with a needle deep or even
enough to bleed.
Do you think that is still self harming?
Or is it just expressing frustration?

Anything that causes pain to yourself to escape all the bad things in life (cutting, bruising, burning, stabbing, etc.) I would consider what your doing self harm.

I think that is self harm. Any form of voluntary harm to yourself is self harm.

It is a mixture of things.
Self loathing and a desire to punish yourself.
Just plain frustration like punching something or smashing something.
And it also gives a feeling of satisfaction and release.
That's some of it.
I don't think anyone who has not been there can really understand it tho.

I am doing a lot better btw.
Not nearly as much of what I was dealing with a month ago.

I think you're expressing frustration, rather than it being self harm. You're not going out of your way to intentionally hurt yourself for the reason of gaining something out of it, and I think that's the key thing. You're doing it because you can't self harm the way you normally would, so you've replaced it with something less damaging.

Yeah I agree. It sounds the same as snapping an elastic band to me. You're not hurting yourself to the extent of bleeding or leaving a mark so personally I wouldn't count it. What counts as self harm is usually a personal preference. To some cutting that doesn't leave scars or bleed won't count while to others less damaging things will.
You should make up your own mind and think about what you're trying to gain from these actions - this will usually give you an answer. Personally it doesn't sound like you're causing yourself much physical harm so if I woudn't take it as seriously as if you were cutting.

i would consider that self harm since i started just clenching my fist till i left fingerprints in my hands and they some times bled then moved to needles and so on i think u need to keep doing less until u think u can go without doing anything at all:showoff:
