i took a Zoloft yesterday and a couple hours after i started to feel extremely depressed and like all the joy had been sucked out of life, now it is about 24 hours later and i am still feeling a little bit down, though it is not as bad as before. My question is how long will it take for the effects of the Zoloft to completely leave my system, i am a little bit worried.:(
Thanks in advance

I'll assume that your doctor prescribed Zoloft, and that yesterday was the first dose.

If you felt more depressed after taking it, you might be experiencing a side effect of it, so you want to tell your folks and have them call the doc before your next dose.

Wow that confirms my suspicions. I think you are currently going through normal side effects of meds like that. TO be quite honest I think you should try a different med because Zoloft is supposed to make you happy not sad. So I think it will wear off when you have eaten and done all of your bodily things which is another day or two. So good luck and you should be doing better in a day or two as long as you dont take it. Was that your first time?

No! Severe depression is NOT a normal side effect of Zoloft, it's supposed to take that away, not make it worse!

Lots of news lately about antidepressants and teens and depression, this is one of the side effects that are uncommon and potentially risky. The OP should tell his folks, who need to call the doc before the next dose.

i was not prescribed zoloft, i was basically given it and not told until after as bad as that sounds, this was a one time thing i do not plan to do it again.
Should i expect the effects(depression as a result of the pill) to go away in a couple of day?

You were given something and you just took it? Hmmm......This wasn't a good thing to do, don't do it again.

I would imagine that the Zoloft would pass thru your system relatively quickly if it was just one pill. However, you have to remember that anything you're feeling or thinking or wanting to do that's out of the ordinary for you is the result if the pill, and not respond to it by doing anything impulsive. So, control yourself.

If you don't feel better 'soon' or if you feel worse, or it gets in the way, as hard as it is to tell your folks, you should. Zoloft does have nasty side effects that might require medical intervention.
