You might be surprised that the Nevada Mojave desert
area near Las Vegas where I live, has wetlands areas with ponds
and a white water river running through it. These are some pictures
I took on a field trip I was on recently. This is the first time I have taken
a set of nature pictures and I hope you like them. I plan on doing more
from now on and hopefully my picture taking skills will improve.

Calico Basin - Red Spring

This is or was Calico Basin but I guess according
to the sign it is Red Spring now. In the picture next
to the sign are my wonderful grandparents.
Next are modern petroglyphs. (No worries mine
and others already there were done with the natural
chalk stone in the area which erases easily.)
The last one is: it's so sunny in Nevada even the
rocks get freckles haha.

For the top two the one on the left looks like a mountain lion
and the one on the right looks like a bird head.

Floyd Lamb State Park, Nevada

Here are some pictures I took at Floyd Lamb State Park
also known as Tule Springs. This place is a desert oasis
and reminds me some of Oregon when I'm there.
It used to be a ranch and has lots of interesting old buildings.
Plus several large ponds full of ducks, geese and coots. There
are also lots of peacocks there and it is full of trees.

We stopped by the runway observation spot at
McCarran International Airport today. Sadly
there was a file error and most of the pictures
I took did not survive. The last one is just a
random freeway shot. These are also pics of rare
gray skies in Las Vegas during what would normally
be bright sunlight.

We went to go check out the huge Christmas display
at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, but it was still under
construction. So I decided to take some before pictures.
And will add after pictures when we return.

Cool photos. Keep shooting, you'll only keep getting better. Don't be afraid to play around with camera angles, different lightings, different subjects, things like that. You should try taking photos inside as well, and of people too. Even if landscapes are your favorite, you'll learn a lot of compositional elements from photographing other subjects that you'll be able to use when you photograph nature. Keep up the good work!

This is the Christmas display at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas.
It was still under construction and most of it was roped off
but I was still able to get some good shots.

These are all so cool! Especially love the nature shots- sometimes people can forget that the desert isn't just some dry, arid, lifeless place ;)

Also, I think out of all the VTers, I live closest to you. Weird. :P

Ezra does photography? :o

For about a year now. A friend on another forum who was taking pictures of Vegas like Calico Basin got me interested in it. My grandpa nicknamed me Shutterbug Shea :D

I like these, specially the Calico Basin - Red Spring ones!

Those were fun to do because had lived in Vegas my whole life and was seeing stuff I never noticed about. But I doubt I'll be taking any more there now that I'm like 1200 miles north.

Those are really nice shots!

Thanks!

I always imagined Vegas as a somewhat flamboyant and irritating place to live

Outside of the hotel/casino districts it's a ordinary desert city far as I know. Kinda boring actually.
