Opinion: Do you think that same-sex marriage will be legal in the whole US? Why or why not? This is purely an opinion poll, well moreso straw poll on if you personally believe same-sex marrige will be legal throughout the US and maybe when.

I feel it is inevitable however I have no idea when it will come about... Honestly one can't put a timestamp on these things.

I am not asking for much, not your view of gays although you can share just don't argue and I'll request this thread closed.

Don't know that much about the US but from what I've heard I would say waaay longer in the south. Still, anything could happen. It'll be legal in Ireland in a couple of years which I'm really happy about :D Unfortunately I'll be just a few weeks too young to vote :/

Agreed. In time it will happen but it will be a much slower process in the south and midwest.

It's bound to happen.

There's no reason it shouldn't be legal. It's only the old breed of representatives that are stopping it. Who knows, within a few years most of them will probably croak, and then maybe we can elect some individuals who actually care about equality for all.

I think there will be too many objections for it to be passed soon unfortunately. Such a shame.

I hope like hell it will be legalized, and promoted, but there are a LOT of people who are unfortunate to have their brains corrupted by racism, prejudice, homophobic, and just bad stuff and won't allow it.

Yes, but it will be a slow proccess, why? The Republicans will oppose it for a long time.

Its going to be a slow process in some states but, eventually it'll be legal

Yeah, I agree it'll be slow to legalize because of all the people against it, but I'm pretty sure it'll happen.

The fact that homosexual sex was illegal 10 years ago in states like Texas shows that it's got a very long way to go,but the fact that a very small minority of Republicans like Rob Portman and John McCain support it is a good thing, as more people come out the closet more people will come to accept gays and in turn gay marriage

Being homosexual was illegal here 10 years ago too but we're set to have a vote in 2015 and no one has any doubt that it will be passed. So I think it's definitely possible that it could happen in Texas too.

Don't count on it. Fine Gael said they could hold a referendum by 2015. Let's repeat that for clarification: Our pro-Christian, Conservative Party said they could hold a referendum by 2015. They're suggesting it solely to placate Labour. Actually attempting to hold the referendum could further split the Party, and they really don't want that to happen again after the whole Abortion fiasco.

It was also 20 years ago, though the fact that we ever had anti-buggery laws in the first place is bad.

Yeah sorry I miscalculated. I could have sworn I read that it would definitely happen, and on the same day where they will have the vote about whether the voting age should be lowered.

I think that within the next 50 years it will be legal.
Why?
It's more or less, people will do one of a few things:
1. Stop being ignorant and using bigotry to take other's rights.
2. Do it to look good.
3. Do it for the hell of it.

Honestly, I don't care what the reason is. I just want marriage equality for everyone.

I live in Texas and most Texans actually don't care about gay marriage. Like at all, most I know would rather be silent on the issue or ignore it.

But are they actually against it or do they just not really care about it?

All of the US will have it legal eventually and I'd like it within the next 50 years (still a VERY LONG time), but it could take any amount of time.
In Ireland they have set the referendum for 2015. Logically I don't see why it's been postponed for so long -.-

Yes, but it will be slower in the south as said before.
The reason why is because our American Nationalist (Republican) party will someday realize their shortsighted idiocy.

P.S. I don't want to wait until I'm 65 to marry the man of my dreams, though :(

I wouln't label all Republicans that way. You're kind of speaking to one. Hello how are you? haha.

>I'm going to mislabel an entire party and assume that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM IS AGAINST MY IDEALS!

Yeah, that's why we don't have bipartisanship.

Back on topic, in our lifetimes, perhaps. In the next 50 years is probably a stretch, but I could see it as a possibility.

Without a doubt will be legal in all states (might take more than 50 years though) and at that point will be considered crazy that it took that long to do so.

I think the more liberal ones get silenced but back to subject. I can only think of a handful of republicans who support gay marriage but I think other republicans do not like them.

Yes, I think it will happen, we're off to a good (but slow) start. Around 50 years sounds about right but it could be longer or shorter. Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. Let gay people get married. We're not bothering anyone by tying the knot.

Good answer. What do you say to those few gays who make gays look terrible? As you know every groups has those of good and bad so what do you think of that?

It will be a slow process,
I do believe that marriage should be between One Man and One Woman. However I do tolerate and believe they should be free to have a Civil Union which will give them benefits that a married couple would have.

Whatever. Homophobes should realize that just because a few people are making others look bad doesn't mean they really are.. I mean look at all the straight people doing the exact same thing.
