So guys and gals, I am in a sort of weird dilemma about my piano.
I have a piano that was made in the late 1800's that I absolutely love and the tone is still lovely but there is a problem, the piano is really worn due to age. The wood is still excellent but the ivory needs to be changed, the pedals are no longer working and some of the strings are very worn and about to go in about 2-5 years.

I really don't want to see it go but to repair it fully will cost around 1,500 euros at least. My family just want to get a new piano but this thing is nearly an antique and the tone is still incredible! If we get a new piano, I wont be allowed keep it :(

What do you think I should do?

If you love it but it doesnt work, you can try and keep it, as well as getting a new one. Or work on restoring it your own as an experiment. Another thing is to just tell your parents how much you love it, and that you want to keep it.

I say sell the older one (you might get someone who can pay you huge money for it) and get a new one. Or repair it and sell it (if the gain is more) and then buy a new one.

Nonononono, do not sell it. Keep it up, make sure it's working nicely, looks nice, then if you really want to, sell it, and you'll make way more than you would have in it's current condition.

*Personally, I'd keep it because, dang, that's cool, but to each their own.

I'd keep and restore it too. Kinda like an old toy that you grew up with. I'd also try for a new piano, too if you can get away with it.

I think you will end up missing it forever if you sell it.
My dad says the older he gets the more
he regrets not holding onto cherished items.

Piano's are beautiful delecate and very valuable in most cases. I'd certainly keep it, or learn to play it or something. It's a shame to get rid of it
