open honest communication be yourself don't try to impress the person being someone or something you're not. good hygiene helps too.

If you have rows everyday and if you find yourselves taking a break from each other at multiple occasions, just break up. Don't cheat on each other, don't tell lies, and don't try to maintain a relationship with someone who is not sane and refuses to consistently go to a therapist. Communicate. Don't neglect your partner in any way, because this increases the likelihood that he/she cheats on you. Say the ''L'' word often, but only if you mean it. If you don't mean it, then don't stick around and wait for yourself to start meaning it. Stay in touch with your friends, and be nice to your partner's friends too.

I think that's about everything I've learned from watching other people.

Never lie. Just don't do it, it's a soul destroying thing and if you have to lie in a relationship, why are you in that relationship in the first place. You either trust someone or you don't. As said above, communication is always key, if you can't talk you'll never get anywhere. Don't try to be the person that's always there, you can't be the one that is always relied on. You have your own life and regardless, that comes first. Listening, is also a big one.
