In your opinion, what is the purpose of life?

This question actually got me thinking. My purpose would be, just to experience it. See all the new inventions in the future, meet new people, make new friends, get a job. Go traveling to different places, go around the world.

I think the purpose of life is to love. To feel love and give love. It's probably the most satisfying and fulfilling feeling and I think most people can agree on that. Who isn't happy with love? We all think of love often. I can't think of a single person who does not. It's really sad to me that a lot of people don't feel that way and even if they claim to they don't often practice it. The "meaning" of life can't really be described in one way, though. It has many meanings. The meanings of life are to spread and receive love, fulfill your goals and realize your potential and make sure that most of all, you love and protect yourself. Because nothing outside of you really matters more than you yourself do. I guess another meaning of life could be doing what's good for you, to make you happy in return, but still taking others into consideration while doing so.

I pretty much agree with this. God created us to live, plain and simple, to have life (for us humans, to have conscious experience of life). Think of a fly on the wall, why? The reason for it to exist is for it to exist. But in addition to this, as far as humans are concerned, I believe God wants us to reunite with Him through Christ. It's dynamic, evolutionary growth that is the purpose. Agape love is a very important, central and essential element to this.

The purpose of life is the one you give to it by what you do with your life. It is not one fixed purpose, every individual has a different purpose, and its not what life does with you, its what you do with life.

The purpose of life is to make an impact on someone else. The smallest things in life can make an impact on someone bigger than you can ever imagined. So many things, no matter how small, all coincide to make something great. We were put here to change each others lives. That is why i made the decision to pursue the career of law enforcement.

Police officer, firefighters, and soldiers are terrific examples among us. An officer can make holding your hand seem like te biggestthin in the world when someone has wronged you. They can make those annoying sirens sound like angels singing. Fire men will rush into burning house to carry you out when your legs cant. They climbed up those towers that september day and carie people out only to get trapped them selves. These peoe know what they were put on the earth to do. Its a shame that many people dont.

The purpose would be to benefit others.
Such as: one part of my purpose is that my existence makes
my mom happy and gives her a purpose for having given birth
to me and looking after me.

I think the purpose of life is to make the most of it and be as happy as possible. Some people think that the purpose of life is to gain knowledge, love or help others. But the truth is all those things make people happy and therefore the purpose of life is to be happy.

This question has so many answers, but the purpose of life is what one individual makes it. What constitutes a successful life for me is; continuously learning new things, finding a partner and a group of friends, and being able to say your proud of what your leaving behind when you pass.

This has sooo many different answers. I think it is a combination of things - too much of one thing is never good, remember what your mama taught you. Try and be a 'good' person. There are a lot of different ways that could be interpreted. What I'm saying is, be kind to others, be respectful, be loving, be helpful. That leads to happiness which I think is the icing on the cake, the very purpose of life. Enjoy yourself, and help others to enjoy themselves. I could elaborate a lot more but I will leave it here.

The purpose of life is to give life a purpose. In the long run anything that any of us could do, or ever hope to accomplish, is insignificant. Our universe is vast, and past our universe there are likely to be many more. This reality that we're experiencing is nothing but a sensory illusion.

Wow, I had not checked this thread in a while, but everyone has really interesting, deep answers.

I guess for me, although I hate putting numbers on it, life is 60% about pursuing happiness and 40% making a positive impact in the world, whether that be for individuals, or for the common good.

This question actually got me thinking. My purpose would be, just to experience it. See all the new inventions in the future, meet new people, make new friends, get a job. Go traveling to different places, go around the world.

I agree, but feel that this is more what makes life so great and vivid and beautiful, instead of an end in itself.

I don't think there is one. Everybody wants to make their mark or something, but when the human race dies, what's the point? We're happy and sad and we fight through so much, but it's all for nothing. So, while I'm stuck on this planet, I'm just going to have as many adventures as I can.

Life, quite simply, doesn't have an objective point. It is a very subjective thing. We all make our own meaning in life. There is no objective meaning, but that doesn't mean anything. Meaning doesnt relate to value always. If you want to know my personal meaning it is to love, nurture, feel, help, learn, impact the world, and just do what I love. I love when I see power and conquest in people's list. ;) To me power is just silly, but Hey.

Agape love is a very important, central and essential element to this.To me saying that life has meaning at all when you are a Christian is silly. I'm not trying to offend. Christianity just logically makes life meaningless and valueless.

If you are a Christian you believe in heaven and hell and see life as a test. Heaven and hell are eternal. Life is incredibly short. Just this fact devalues life. If you have eternity to look forward to, Why worRy about the here and now? That isn't my main problem with that though. My problem lies with the Bible's claim that God is all knowing. If He is all knowing life is totally silly. He has set up a pointless test for you that He already knows the result of. He knows what will happen to you in the end and He can rightly toss you in heaven or hell the moment you were created. Earth and life are totally unneeded.

I am not meaning to offend you and you can believe whatever you want.

Best answer so far. I guess how you view the purpose of life depends on your religious beliefs or lack of any. Your born, you get older , and then you die, It is what you make of it

In your opinion, what is the purpose of life?

I think that the purpose of life is to find love. Love is what we chase after, desire after. A lot of the time, we base our determination and our mind set on love. When we do eventually find love, it feels like the best moment of our lives...until it ends. Then we feel the same way we felt before love came along. I somewhat think that love makes up at least 60% of life's purpose!

The purpose of life is what you give it, it is relative. For me, love is one of the purposes of life, by living you life with someone else's.
There are many more purposes, but one I have come to terms with recently is love.

In my opinion there is no point to life, but that doesn't mean you can't have your own point to life! I couldn't really put my finger on what I believe the point is, but I just want to live my life until I'm unhappy

Biologically, it's to have children of course...

I'm not sure. I would say to help others, but then why is anyone here if we're all just required to help each other?

In your opinion, what is the purpose of life?

I have surprisingly pondered this before and I had come to a logical conclusion as well.

I believe that there is no absolute "meaning of life", and I have concluded this upon scientific logic and reasoning, however humanity has the ability to create their own reasons to live, to succeed, to prosper, to experience, and yet there is no purpose or prevalent reason to be alive in the first place. This kind of ethic is what makes humanity so incredible.

So what happens when you become unhappy?
Well that's pretty obvious

But I mean a serious kind of unhappiness, when you're completely burned out and you can't get out of it
