View Full Version : I may try speedos, but why the negativity to them in the USA?

Hello, I am young and slim but I always wanted to wear speedos for swimming and beach going. I hate how in America speedos are frowned upon and women can be virtually naked and in countries the people don't care and men wear speedos anyway.

In other countries baggy trunks are not as common and American men would get werid looks, plus I notice other countries seem to have people with nicer bodies than most in America but I am sure I am wrong on that.

I want to try speedos because I find they look better and plus me not being too big they wouldn't look too bad on me I think. But what do you think? Do you like speedos on a guy?

Are they more common outside the US?
Are they comfortable?
Can a skinny guy wear them too?
And do any of you know people who wear them or do you wear them?
And lastly, if you wear speedos, are you in the USA and do you wear them for swimming, beachgoin, or both?

Are they more common outside the US? Yea. Here you are bound to see a minimum of two people wearing speedos.
Are they comfortable? When i was younger and swum, yes.
Can a skinny guy wear them too? Skinnier the person better. Unless they are really boney and you can see their ribs.
And do any of you know people who wear them or do you wear them? Used to when I swum in a squad. I can't stand swimming at all now so i just sit at the edge of the pool or on the beach now but i if still swam I would still wear them to lap swim only because I care what people think of me way more then i should.
And lastly, if you wear speedos, are you in the USA and do you wear them for swimming, beachgoin, or both? I don't live in the USA but, people here where them for both or they have preferences. Up to you.

Fair enough. If they care about how hot your butt looks in a speedo or that you are wearing one then they may want to check themselves and their goals if they question other's dress.

It really depends. If the guy wearing them got a nice body, then it's eye candy, but so far I've only seen them being worn by middle aged men with beer guts, and it's not a pretty sight. :P

I'm not a big fan of speedos, but I will answer the questions

Are they more common outside the US? yes, but not that much either. Only in Italy I saw majority of dudes wearing them at the beach
Are they comfortable? for me no, plus it is tricky to find the right size for them not to drop but not to squeeze your balls either
Can a skinny guy wear them too? i dont see why not
And do any of you know people who wear them or do you wear them? only for swimming in the pool
And lastly, if you wear speedos, are you in the USA and do you wear them for swimming, beachgoin, or both? i dont wear them, but i did when i swam also in USA but never outside the pool

I honestly don't see the problem with it. The only reason I can fathom people disliking them is because of the bears or fatties who wear them. :P

Are they more common outside the US? I wouldn't know, I've never been outside the US.
Are they comfortable? (I wear jammers which is basically the spandex but in a swim shorts shape) I find them very comfortable.
Can a skinny guy wear them too? I'm slightly under the healthy BMI and I have to say, I don't look bad in them. :P
And do any of you know people who wear them or do you wear them? Yes, my school's swim team requires you to wear a speedo.
And lastly, if you wear speedos, are you in the USA and do you wear them for swimming, beachgoin, or both? I don't really go to the beach but I use them when I'm gonna be swimming like at the y. For recreational swim it depends.

Are they more common outside the US? When in Europe I saw a bunch of guys wearing them.
Are they comfortable? I actually think they are.
Can a skinny guy wear them too? I mean, I do lol
And do any of you know people who wear them or do you wear them? Yep, everyone that was on my swim team and saw me at meets lol.
And lastly, if you wear speedos, are you in the USA and do you wear them for swimming, beachgoin, or both? Just for swimming, I prefer trunks at the beach.

A speedo? Unless you look like Tom Daley in one, I'm going to laugh at you. You're not in the Olympics, put on some shorts.

Aw I'm the only one against this I look like a dick

For that I am definitely going to try them. You know, that was a bit uncouth of a reply and only Americans wear baggy shorts and in other countries their views are freer than America's.

And I'd rather not see a random strangers man parts all out in the open. Call me crazy.

It's not crazy. Not everyone has the body to show off and if a speedo is showing off their bits then that is not a speedo. Speedos hold you not flaunt you.

It doesn't sound to me like the original poster is a swimmer.

My advise is to take up swimming, either join a local team or club or just find a local pool/gym and start swimming laps for exercise. By doing either of these, you can start wearing a speedo in a perfectly appropriate place. You'll gain confidence and get in shape, two things that are VITAL if you are to pull off a speedo in public.

The United States is a very prudish, judgemental nation in many ways. It goes back to its puritanical roots. It isn't going to change.

Fortunately, I am seeing more young guys wearing tighter or revealing clothing and the idea of a speedo isn't the taboo it used to be. You just need the confidence and the body to pull it off.

Though I did choose "I don't care wear what you want" and the double standard one, I did say I don't like speedos on guys, by that I mean I'm not a fan of your junk hanging out, but I also dislike seeing guys naked or shirtless, trunks or speedo, it doesn't matter. But really, wear whatever the heck you want. It's your life, your body, your choices.

I plan to get into swimming actually. Thanks. Sadly America is very judgemental yet I like tight clothes but often do not wear them.

My two bros and I wear them for rec, beach and comp. Never had a problem anywhere. Our parents buy them for us.

I think wearing a speedo would end me regardless of whether or not I'm in good shape. it just shows too much I don't want to have to shave my legs or risk having it stripped down after a big old wave. Speedos suck, period. :butthatsjustmyopinionpanda.jpg:

For me at least I try to keep my body smooth and hairless and I may start swimming. In Europe speedos are commonplace.

Are they more common outside the US? I think so ,but i've never been to the us.

Speedos are the norm here in Brazil. People find it weird if anyone wears swimshorts. Personally, if I ever go swim, I go with swimshorts (and yes I get weird looks). Speedos are just shiny underwear IMO, and are so unpleasant to... see. Double standards, but the stuff really get in the view. That being said... Go for it!

Well, my opinion. I hate when people see my package in full view... And they are tight, specially around my parts... So I'm going for some looser shorts.

Speedos are a time and place thing. I wore them for 2 years on the swim team and water polo and wasnt a big deal. I wear them now sometimes when Im swimming laps but not to the beach.

Are they more common outside the US? Yes, much more common.
Are they comfortable? Hell yeah!
Can a skinny guy wear them too? Of course! Nothing says you can't. I'm skinny and I wear them. I don't have a body like Tom Daley, though.
And do any of you know people who wear them or do you wear them? All the guys in my family wear them, and so do my male friends. Most younger guys here in France also wear board shorts, but they still wear speedos for the pool. Most of my friends are not on swim teams. I'm not that good of a swimmer, actually.
And lastly, if you wear speedos, are you in the USA and do you wear them for swimming, beachgoin, or both? I've never been to the USA, so I don't know. I wear them for swimming and beachgoing. Most older men wear them for both but a lot of younger guys only wear them at swimming pools. Still, most young guys here own speedos since you're NOT allowed in the pool without one (which is true of most countries in Europe - that's why Americans usually don't go to our swimming pools). I cannot stand board shorts because they're so heavy and they feel awful when you get out of the water.
