I just use Encrypt Files its free and it works fine :)

i used Ashampoo winOptimizer it does a host of stuff encluding encryption

Encrypting files yourself is always good, although you'd need some experience in the subject. That's probably the best way to go though, because it could be unpredictable. Also, I doubt your transferring government secrets, so I don't think encryption is THAT big a deal that you need anything more than what's given already.
