How do I get closer to her?

So i like this girl. Lets say her name is Y. I've only started liking Y recently. However, this isn't because of how she looks or anything, but her personality. I find it really fun to be with her. Even if she practically beats me up, (in good spirit) I find it really fun to be with her. She's a bit chubby, but I don't mind. I actually like it that she has a bit of meat on her.

Here's the catch, she likes a different guy. Of course she does. But what really bugs me is that I don't mind that much. I used to like this other girl for 3 years, and she got taken recently. I'm over it, but I think what happened changed me inside.

I want to make Y happy though. I know that she emotes a lot, (eg rage at life, get pissed a lot) but I like her for who she is. I know that the guy Y likes will never like her back, (he isn't the type to get into a relationship) and I just want to ... urgh. Help.

I find that whenever I like a girl who happens to be a good friend that I spend a lot of time with, I can just let her know that I have feelings for her nut make sure she understands that I have no intention on changing how we interact with each other. This is basically giving her the chance to decide if she would like to form a relationship with you while still being friends with you. Don't be too upset if she is a little offput by the sudden confession. If that is the case she will just need a bit of time to sort out her feelings. I hope this helps. If you want to make her happy, be there for her when she needs it. One thing that everyone needs is someone to be there for them, regardless of the intention that you have. If you genuinely care about her, be there when she needs someone. Talk to her, keep having conversations and maybe one day just come out with it, tell her that if she doesn't want a relationship that you understand and that you thought it was best to tell her how you feel anyway. If the other guy isn't interested in her, she'll get the picture later. Try being flirty but don't over do it because that's just a no. Keep getting to know her and see where it goes from there.
