We will never be equal? You sound like someone who is trying to stop women getting the vote back in the 1800's. Men and women can reach levels of equality in both the work place and the political sprectrum. Men and women can be equal and they should, because under both the 1975 employment act and the 2010 equality act not allowling that would be against the law. This is no different to you saying gay and straight men can't be equal because they're different. We live in a diverse world get over it

I'm sorry mate but there is a strange trend- you post a stupid thread and then about 10 people disagree with you and then you just back away from that idea. I'm still waiting for your ideas about how the labour party is a Marxist party.

would you pay someone in a good position knowing that they could leave and claim maternity as well as that you also will have to hire temporary staff

do you know what an exaggeration is? of course they're not bloody communist! I'm just saying they're too far left and a kiss ass to the poor

UKIP want their ideas back. Fathers can also take paternity, the women could be infertile, gay or single. Not every woman in the world wants a child. On that point Margaret Thatcher, Theresa May, Yvette cooper. All female politicians who were trusted to to be payed in a good position. Your argument is actually stupid you know. If your statement was true then we wouldn't have any female politicians

they're so left its unreal, they will give everyone everything, destroy the upper class and reverse our current economic growth

I asked you for facts to back this up but you simply refused. Showing that as usual you simply have no argument to lean on apart from calling people lower class

You've got to be kidding me....

Harry is right. Not every woman wants to be a mother; count ME as one of them. I rather have a career than dwell in motherhood, thank you very much. Also, that is just stupid that we can never be equal. Why not? Harry nailed it again

This is pretty much the reason I came out of retirement, I mean as someone who will hopefully raise a child with another guy one of us I would have to take time off work. My male Principal took two months off to look after his disabled son. I'm sure Britishboy will go under his rock now for the day as people pick at his flawed argument

I personally think that women are a heckofalot better than guys. Obviously it depends on the individual, as there are always mean people.
But women are superior! :D And us guys should recognize that.

women throw lighter weights in the Olympics, men have higher testosterone, men lose fat and build muscle easier, I'm not saying we shouldnt be treated equal but the dream of us being exactly the same is impossible in my eyes

Okay women can't through a stick further, no feminist has ever said that women and men are identical. It's simply a case of social and legal equality. However people are taking issue with the fact your saying that women shouldn't hold top position, do you back away from that sexist view point now?

I'll simply answer: no; you're completely wrong; there can be full equality, and in the future I'm sure there will be full equality. Most of the obstacles in the way of this however lie in the mindsets of men (and woman); and - as you've proved by merely creating this thread - it's going to be a continued slow process, unfortunately.

that was my point, people should calm down, we are different, not hugely but we are. they can and do hold top positions and there is no reason other than pregnancy and sexist teachings when they was younger

one of my favorite PM's was women and she was hard as steal!

if the constant we must be equal argument continues, there will be calls for a 1:1 ratio of men and women in the army for example

Pregnancy isn't a reason, I can't believe you talk about sexist teachings and then go on to produce that crap. It doesn't matter if a women has a baby at the work place, many women do it and manage to get pass it.

I want men and women to have equal rights in the workplace and at home, it's as simple as that

Your presenting a very hypocritical argument- you say you like thatcher (who had children) yet you say you don't think women should be hired because they can get pregnant. That sounds real smart

lets say a women is 40 odd years old in 1970 women were thought differently to men, this gave the current top generation of women a huge disadvantage

women have equality in the work place

pregnancy is a reason people use not to hire women (although generally in struggling small businesses) because if they go on maternity you have to pay them and temporary staff

That's illegal, pretty much. Employers would get sued for doing that. As Jess pointed out not all women want children- stop making generalizations please.

I'm still waiting for my reply about how Labour is practically marxist as well mate

Do you mean biologically equal or socially equal? Because you're right, just due to nature we can't be completely biologically equal, with only occasional exceptions, but I firmly believe that men and women should be socially equal in all possible regards.

I never said all did, did I? but thats why percentages are lower of women getting top jobs, most women will have a baby, a disadvantage in a world where experience is everything

yes it is illegal but small struggling businesses do do it because they simply can't afford it, they should have a criminal conviction not just a law suite in my eyes but it would be hard to prove

and I did just tell you I was exaggerating right?

biological and so do i, women are socially equal apart from the stereotypes

This is what you asked me, sounds like your implying that women should get good positions doesn't it?

I assume you have some stats about this small business thing.

I just think the issue that people need to get over is that yes men and women are different, just like gay men and straight men are different. It doesn't really matter, you should always strive for full equality no matter what. It doesn't matter if your pregnant or not

This thread seems so wrong to me, men and women should be treated the same, just because they are biologically different it doesn't mean you won't employ a woman for example. No gender is better than the other.

Aren't you going in circles then?

It can matter that they have a child in the workplace. A teacher at my school used to have her husband bring the kid and watch the class while she went to go breast feed the kid.

Any way my idea on the thread, men and women are equal so people just need to cool down. How ever i do think there are some things that one is better at than the other.

How would sexual orientation have a role in determining if men/women are different?

And, of course they are in a sense, but humans are still humans. Everyone deserves the same rights, the same freedoms.

We will. This is a sexist statement. Not physicalky, but by rights, opinions and everything else, we will be equal one day. A day will come when every woman's opinion and choice will be respected.

There'll always be the statements: " ladies first" or "she's a lady, let her" or related phrases.
I opine that the statement in your title fits today's society.
True women have climbed the ladder and is gradually equalling men, but they still have a lot to do to disturb the patriarch society.

Of course men and women are equal, but it is an undeniable thing that they are different,so maybe some of their rights and duties are different too!

Men and women should have equality where it is justified. Obviously the gender differences will make them have different needs, but anything not related to their sexuality should be equal.

we will never be equal because we are different! (I'm talking about straight men and women only btw)

And this is what I call blatant sexism.

But you do make some correct points.
1. Equality for all is impossible, so yes men and women won't ever be equal.
2. Also, because society is sexist in certain ideals, men and women won't be treated the same.

But...
3. Men and women are both homo sapien sapiens (down to subspecies) thusly, we should be entirely equal politically.

4. Sexism is still wrong due to 3.

The OP never mentioned political equality. He made an open ended statement. Probably to see where it would lead to.

His original statement isn't at all sexist, but you jumped right in on that one with your own assumptions. Men and women aren't equal. There is zero wrong with that statement. None. We're very different types of beings and there's nothing wrong with that.

You assume he meant men are superior, but he didn't say that. Nor did he say women are superior. He stated a fact and to the clear thinking, a proper response would be:

I agree. Or I agree and is there a reason why you state this fact? Or if someone was feeling funny, a response stating another fact would serve the same purpose. For example, a living human has more than one atom the Earth is smaller than the Sun at this point in time.

If he didn't mention anything about same rights and freedoms you'd be correct.
But you are incorrect because you apparently must not have read the last part of the second paragraph. It is sexism, blatant, but in this case understandable, because the statement was intended in a nonsexist way.
