Can personalities change?

I believe this fits here, it's a unclear topic in need of wise ramblings.

Can personalities change?
Trauma, whether mental or physical, has always been associated with changing people's personalities.
Drugs, too much weed for example. If your mind isn't 100% in the first place you can get paranoid, schizophrenic and other fun things.
But can you change your personality out of self determination?

I do not think so.
I think one can modify their personality over time.
Turn over a new leaf. Become a better person.
But when it comes to altered personalities, from alcohol, drugs trauma etc.
I think it is rare that the alteration is a desirable permanent state.
Usually when someone's personality had been altered in any manner, it
becomes a priority to try retuning that person to their unaltered state.

Personalities continuously change. Lasting change comes naturally or with determination, alcohol/drugs only cause short-term changes or irreversible damaging changes.

It's not that they can, they do. It's a part of life.

They do over time, as you grow up, develop, and mature, so does your personality, and that is a big change.

I don't know if that's so much a matter of change as development.
And I think the question was, can you change your personality, rather than
does it change on its own over time.
