View Full Version : Would you smoke pot if it was legal?

I'm curious to hear. Personally, I've never smoked pot, mainly because I just know that with my luck I'd find some way to get caught. But if it just happened to get legalized, there's a good chance I would at least give it a try.

It`s legal here, so yeah I would :P

All those people in US, most of them think smoking pot is really bad and dangerous and stuff like that. It`s kinda funny actually.(I dont judge negatively with this post if you think that) What most people dont know is that alcohol is a harddrug and compared to marihuana way more bad for you.

As it is with all the stimulants. Don`t use it too many times and just keep yourself under control. :)

The reason why it's so dangerous over here in the states is because sometimes the pot is laced with much more harmful substances like Cocaine and even Meth. The only way I would smoke it is if I knew where it was coming from.

Ive "partaken" many many times, and as someone else mentioned, the only harmful things ive witnessed regarding weed is when someone isnt smart about it and makes poor decisions about where they get it from or what they do under the influence. If it was legal, in my opinion the only factors to look out for is that you arent stupid regarding who you buy from, you are making sure to keep yourself healthy and are in a good condition to partake (dont smoke if you have been having asthma issues lately or are sick ) and that you know how to moderate yourself. Not saying you should or shouldnt, but just make sure you're with people you trust your first time.

Marijuana can be laced with substances anywhere in the world, not just the United States.

I already smoke maybe once or twice a week as it is. There is no legality for juani here, but I don't think legality should influence your decision on using a substance as it is.

I live in Los Angeles where it is legal for medical purposes. If you want it, you can easily obtain it. Almost everybody has a medical condition that can be considered to be (even if only mildly) improved by marijuana usage, and thus obtaining legality is usually a 20 minute walk in doctor visit away.

The way it works here after obtaining a recommendation from a doctor is that you purchase marijuana from dedicated dispensaries. You can be pretty certain that these dispensaries are not selling laced product.

Marijuana is a heavily studied drug with very few documented disadvantages. The legalization effort is only going to continue as people are further educated about marijuana and its benefits vs its disadvantages.

If it were legal I would imagine companies would compete and it would end up being very safe to use. At that point, I would more likely try it. Also, if you use the same "stash" or whatever that someone else has used and it looks like good quality, then yeah. Never had it yet but am curious.

DISCLAIMER: Everything following is written by a guy who has a part time obsession with drug research who lives in a state with legalized medical marijuana. My purpose here is to spread factual information about drugs backed by scientific research/studies and help eliminate common misconceptions, as well as to provide advice and opinions on various drug-related matters. If you have questions, feel free to pose them to me however you like!

Hasn't stopped me. If it were legal It would just be easier for me to buy.

Well, if you actually live in San Francisco, it's already kinda-sorta legal. Possession of less than one ounce of marijuana by any given person is akin to a parking ticket. Furthermore, you could pop into a given recommendation clinic and very likely get a recommendation without any trouble. It's hard to not have a suitable medical condition that marijuana is known to treat (insomnia, anxiety, etc).

I wouldn't. I doubt a lot of people would.

I wonder what makes you think that. Once you get over the stigma and do a little reading, one quickly realizes that marijuana is as legitimate a theraputic drug as any prescribed medication.

Let's do an example. Hydrocodone, oxycodone, etc, are all frequently prescribed narcotics for pain in various degrees of severity. They are highly addictive semi-synthetic opiates. If marijuana can provide pain relief at around the same efficacy as those narcotics, it is almost certainly a better choice because of fewer negative side effects and far less addiction potential.

Marijuana is a widely useful drug that can help with many medical conditions encompassing far more than just pain. It's also a relatively safe alternative to traditional sleep aids that tend to make you feel like a slug in the mornings.

Hell no, it's gateway drug and gross... I hate to be the douchebag saying this and I really mean no offense to those of you that do, but I think smoking anything in general is a bit trashy. I've never understood how any benefit could ever come from it.

The 'gateway drug' argument is a little bit of a cop out. If you want to do hard drugs, it's unlikely that avoiding marijuana is gonna prepare you to refuse meth from someone if you really want it deep down inside. It's going to happen either way. We can reach a similar effect by saying that Tylenol is a gateway drug for narcotic pain relievers.

As for smoking, indeed, it is the least appealing part of marijuana usage. Inhaling smoke, regardless of its source, is never going to be a very good thing to do! It is generally less dangerous for marijuana users than for tobacco users, but it still isn't really desirable. Luckily, there are alternatives to smoking. There are edible baked products, capsules, vaporization, etc. It's helpful to keep in mind that there are people who do use marijuana for medical issues and don't really care how they administer treatment. Some people who use marijuana legally in states where it is allowed do not smoke at all because dispensaries provide pre-made edible products.

It's actually very, very unlikely that you would ever get laced weed from somebody unless you specifically asked and payed more for it. It would cost a drug dealer more money to lace weed and sell it to you for the regular price than he or she would make back in profit. So unless you specifically ask for it or they have a serious personal vendetta against you, I doubt you'd get laced bud.

You'd probably have more a chance of eating a space cookie at a prom than someone putting meth in your pot haha.

For medical purposes? Well, if I had to, then of course.

For recreational? Of course I would. But only once in a while. It would be like drinking. It's fine to do it once in a while, just not every weekend.

I'm not really that interested. Maybe I'd try it once though.

Katiya
November 3rd, 2013, 01:44 AM
I would do it once. But not smoke, I'd eat it. Saying I know exactly where it came from and that its not contaminated.

And only in the company of close friends or family that I could trust to not hurt me or let me hurt any thing else if it went awry.

Even then just a tad to see what it was like. I am totally fine with it used for medical purposes. I think it's great, and they have types that don't have the psychotropic effects of street weed.

I would never ever do any other drugs. Ever! And I won't ever try weed unless it was legal. Breaking the law isn't my thing, I prefer to keep my sparkling clean record! :)

Ya, bullshit, sorry. "Ruin your brain", a simple understanding of how cannabis works makes it impossible to think that.

The worst possible effect is that it can bring about a few hours of paranoia at high doses in very few people.

Other than that, cannabis is safer than caffeine.

Who knows? I've never done pot before. If pot were legal, how would it's general portrayal in the media be? How would it be perceived and hows socially acceptable would it be?
This, assuming that in the hypothetical situation that pot was legal for a nice while. Things would be different... how?
Would it get me chicks like beer commercials or would I be a filthy citizen? That would definitely change my inclination to the drug.

If it were immediately legal, I would wait for the market to stabilize first, get the big brands with good names...
Then, sure, I'll be saving my first try for some good stoner metal with my best friend. They say it's good... huh?

Well I hate to break it to you, but well most of the time those people we're stupid way before they actually tried pot. Sincerely I find it really amusing how people usually relate pot to stupid people, and people that are too relaxed. I am considered a stoner, but I also have straight A's, have a 4.5 weighted gpa, and I've gotten 5 on every single AP test I have taken. If it was legal I would keep on doing it at the weekly basis I do it, and would not hide it from my parents.

For a long time I also bought into the whole it will hurt your brain. The problem is that we label this things as taboos and when kids that have no self control start doing it, they feel liberated an soon get addicted not to the drug itself but to the feel that they are doing something that is prohibited. ANY SUBSTANCE, even water, used to an extreme can hurt you. That is why instead of prohibition we should be teaching moderation.
