View Full Version : Pax Mundana (World Peace), A hopeless dream or a possibility for the future.

Do you feel as if world peace is a fantasy, a fallacy, impossible?
Or do you feel world peace could one day happen even if centuries from now?
What are you thoughts on peace in general?
Any hopes of peace in certain areas?

Honestly, me, I would love the idea of World Peace, this Pax Mundana but sadly now I know it is mostly impossible given how humanity is, it's as if our shady deeds overshadow our good sometimes and those who want peace are to be marked as dellusional in some hopeless fantasy.

I believe one day their will be World Peace, be it by humanity's own hands in nothing short of a miracle or if by the time of Judgement. Either way, I feel it is possible but slim now.

I feel that there might be world peace in the sense that there will be no fighting as in wars or conflicts but no one will be singing kumbaya and that "peace" will end in a matter of months

Well. judging from Pax Romana, which was only achieved because of the leadership of Caesar, I think that we'd need a cmon leader to actually have any peace. That would be a problem though, because of course, who would want to relinquish leadership on their own country for a project thay would probably not even work?

I do think that it is eventually obtainable but first the world needs to stop looking at color, status, money, power, ability, and religion. We are all human same we will all die, we all start at the same place and we all end up the same way.

Humans have hated humans since the beginning of time. I have no reason to believe that that's suddenly going to change anytime soon. Honestly, it's just not possible, and I don't think it ever will be.

Fair answers, all of you make pretty good points.

It's a big IF.
Eliminating prejudices for a start, but so many other things would need major changing to see world peace happening. It's a huge challenge. To succeed in it humanity itself would change a lot.

I bet there will never be world peace, fighting is human nature, we are animals and animals do fight, a lot. World peace would last 2 seconds at most, then shit will go crazy again because we are imperfect and will always be.

If people could just get over the idea that money = everything than we just might be able to pull it off. Just......... maybe.

Wise words, but it is sad that those willing to change are few in number.

World Peace has been proven in smaller scales in my opinion, but I voted "yes, but not for a very long time".

Basically, I think that World Peace will come if we are ever attacked or threatened by a body outside Earth. I don't think criminals will ever go, that is definitely impossible, some criminals are naturally born that way. I think it can be achieved on a grander scale though, in the case we need to unite to survive.

I fear you may be right. Such a shame that it takes disasters for us to act as one people.

I don't really think it's ever possible. There will always be people looking for a reason to fight, whether it's over gender, color, race, religion (or lack of), etc etc.

That's an opinion, I think it'd be pretty damn boring. Name a movie with no tension or argument in it that got over 5*.

You went from world affairs to movies but skipped the emotional side. I know you are not soulless, you know what I was saying. Tension is one thing, peace is another. What? You hate having peace-of-mind?

We are talking about World Peace, I said it was unattainable and the fact that every movie, ever, has tension in it is part of the reason.

Tension in real life between countries leads to wars.

Human beings like tension.

I seriously doubt it, but if we all get our act together, and keep it that way for like a thousand years, there may be semi-peace. All humans naturally are jealous and negative but if for example technology advances to a point where it controls are emotions and we all become zombies/automatons, then yes it is possible.

A robotic society may even have bad sides. The older models would be labeled inferior and even they would question why that is.

I noticed one thing seems to be the be the cause of conflict; difference.

This person looks different, that person has more, that person is not like you, that person likes girls instead of guys, that person is religious, that person is Christian, that person is pale, those people are small, that person is meek, and so on. Noticed?

Of course. The chance is a 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000001% chance of world peace ever happening to me, but I do believe in the perhaps naive saying of 'Anything is possible'.

The only thing purely naive is the idea of anything lasting forever, I like your reasoning. Amazingy that percent would be incredibly small! Like an atom out of something huge! LOL

Only if some radical change happens in all of our brains, or we face extraterrestrial danger, or if a group of people dedicated to prosperity of mankind seizes power in a probably violent way.

Something tells me that if an outside power came about and started a war on humanity, be it flat out war like in War of the Worlds or more strategic like V, then humanity may band together, unless like the Vistors of V where humanity was made comfortable around the Visitors and didn't feel threatened until it was too late and was too busy arguing amongst themselves, V's or God, V's or Earth, V's or Humans, which split things.

I am a bit of a pessimist hear. I don't think we will ever get peace because people will ALWAYS disagree. For instance, me and another guy on this site have debated our political views more than once. We are part of the same community, from the same country and have never even met, yet we manage to disagree over certain aspects. For peace everyone would have to have the same ideals and be exactly the same. People will bicker over a broken match stick if you let them. And some people just want to watch the world burn. So unfortunately I don't think we will ever have peace.
But it's better not to, right?
If we have peace, we all have the same ideals, we would all be the same. Just a big crowd of clones. Disagreeing is what makes us human, having your own personality and your own ideals. Being able to do what YOU think is right, not what the mass stereotypy thinks is right. Is being yourself not better than to have peace with others?
