View Full Version : Could I Be Anorexic?
Atonement

I often go on what seems like fasting for weeks at a time. I rarely will eat during these periods. I feel fine and healthy, but I eat about half a meal a day. Then, one day, I will just switch back to eating normally. I feel perfectly normal besides the whole barely eating thing. And I never lose or gain any weight in the long run. I lose a few pounds when I am not eating, but when I switch back, I gain them right back. I am starting to get a little worried, this has happened since I was about 8. Any ideas about what may be wrong?

Maybe not anorexia, but fluctuating weight isn't healthy. Try getting some more exercise maybe? That should boost your metabolism and make you eat more, which will regulate your weight.

but why would my eating habits change periodically like a schedule?

Anorexia is when you don't want to eat because of self image or some other type of problem, this seems more like a physical thing maybe it has something to do with your appetite this once happened to me where I just didn't have the appetite to eat anything and it would come and go as you said, if you are really worried about it talk to a doctor he may have some better suggestions then we do.

It doesn't sound like anorexia. Fasting usually means going without any food at all and since you did eat a little, I'd say you're fairly normal. Your appetite may just diminish. It is completely normal to lose weight when fasting and gain it right back when you eat regularly again. You killed your metabolism with the fasting and once you introduce calories to your malnourished body, it will cling to them and you lose nothing in the long run. Although, if it gets any worse and you have an actual fear of eating, see someone.
