What sucks man, is society. Unfortunately, in most circumstances, it wouldn't be the best to just come out and tell him. You should get to know him, like really well, find out his likes and dislikes and stuff and maybe get a feel if he likes guys too? But, I don't really have enough information to be able to give you any real helpful advice, sorry mate. :(

Most kids in my school are actually ok with homosexuality. I only know of 2 that are homophobic.

You need to go slow, find more things about him, hang out more with him, let him know that you like him and that you trust him a lot. Then, when you see that he's really confortable with you, just hold his hand and look at him in the eyes, and tell him you really enjoy being with him, and it would be nice if you two could have more than a friendship. If his reaction is positive, then it's good, just make sure you don't act like a creep. If he says no, I guess there's nothing you can do.
