What is your personal views on what being normal is. What is normal? Just, tell me about what you think about being "normal". Because, frankly, I hajve no clue what it is.

Well, In my opinion to be normal is to be down to earth. Thats the biggest thing, if you're not down to earth then you're not normal. But thats just my view on it

I don't think there's a straight definition of "normal". Everyone's different. By all being "normal" wouldn't we all be pretty much the same?

Normal is what is accepted by the majority of the general population.

normal is just being yourself...to you, you are being normal when other people think youre not. it doesnt matter what others view normal as, just matters what you think.

Normal is what is accepted by the majority of the general population.

Closest so far, everyone else is just pulling that 'individualist' crap.

Guess what, IF YOU'RE NOT OUT CUTTING YOUR ARM OFF IN THE STREET, you're normal.

"no I like this obscure band!"

Screw you, you're normal.

Normal doesn't mean THE SAME.

The definition of normal, depends on the society. We have to see their norms, values, folkways, laws, traditions and how objects are taken in binary opposite situations.

(I have a sociology exam tomorrow, sorry for rant :P)

So is abnormal something unacceptable by society? So is homosexuality abnormal and all these other things that society tends to criticize?

All is relative.. and Octo I'm suprised that came from you it all is individual what is normal to someone, if you think a bit you'll come up with a dozen things that arent normal to you in a persons behaivour..

Then again the person next to you on the street could find half of the things you find abnormal to be normal.

Well not necessarily. Everyone here seems to be taking this to a very fine point.

Normal is supposed to be a vague word.

It's normal in our society, to live in a house.
It's normal to speak.

It's very vague. The word normal changes in places, for example in certain parts of Africa giving the 'peace' symbol is offensive.

Normal changes on where we go. So what if you belong to "goth, emo, punk, rock, prep, etc.) all are normal.

There is a HUGE difference between Normality, and Taboo.

Society may be silently unaccepting of certain things, but they're still normal enough to the society they recognize it.

No one can be normal. Normal means how something is supposed to act. For example, its normal for people to eat when hungry. Well, we all have different personalities, so no one is truly normal. It is NOT okay for people to judge people who act or do things differently, unless it harms someone or something.

Well, we all have different personalities, so no one is truly normal.

Or you could argue that because we all have different personalities, we all have different ideas of what normal is. So everyone is normal to themselves, and people see some things as normal, but the entire concept is completely subjective and undefined except on an individual level.

Normality is, as previously stated, a vague term.
The definition varies between cultures (e.g. in some cultures it is normal for girls to have their vagina sewed up, in others it is not) and within cultures (e.g. some groups within a culture find it normal to be nude, while others do not).
