Ok, so something i have noticed is that all music today lacks something...epicness

Listen to Nickleback (other bands are available), very good band, good songs.
Now listen to Two Steps From Hell- Protectors of Earth, big difference, TSFH is more epic, overpowering, loud, imersive, inspiring. Honestly, listen to that song and you will know what i mean by epic music, a lot of people would describe it as classical but it is very good, addictive.

Just my opinion, what do you think of it and do you prefer it to normal music or do you prefer it?

I love 80's music but I like actual music too. Sadly, I live in a country where reggaeton and cumbia and stuff are the most popular "music". I think that if you search good music, you'll find good music and not necessarily old one ;)

Reggaetón is not necessarily bad, you just need to know where to look and what artists to listen to. There are also gaitas in Venezuela, oh wait, you're in Caracas.

But yes, the day of today does lack some music.

Actually gaitas are very popular among private schools in Caracas. All the teen "farandula" gathers there.

I personally dont like reggaeton except for one song which has been stuck in my head for years...Llamada de Emergencia is the name I think lol.

We should talk more often :B

Best song ever "The Coral - Dreaming of You", it's really feel good and just makes me happy. I am also partial to some David Bowie and AC/DC, oh and Iron Maiden :)
I agree with you hear bud, some of the best songs in the world come from the 80's :)

Well Nickelback is sort of an awful example or standard of comparison, homes. :p There are some badazz bands out there that are...of our time (?). I do think the majority of the fresh singers and bands we hear today are utter crap, with no meaning behind the lyrics or true passion for music, rather they like their faces blown up everywhere. But i do think there are still good music coming out of some bands today.

There are some good bands. Avenged Sevenfold, anyone? They're good and their new album is the shit. It rocks. Some might call it a rip-off of Metallica but I don't give a shit. It's good stuff. I wish more of today's music was like this. I know there are more bands today that are like them and I probably need look for them

I didn't know Nickelback was subjective. My prior knowledge was it falls into the group along with Coldplay of the music that is universally considered crap. I mean, like while I think Muse falls in that category, it's status in that group is debatable, but Nickelback and Coldplay are just renowned for having that status.

If you want to feel Bad Ass try Electric Funeral by Black Sabbath. Or The Trooper by Iron Maiden or Screaming for Vengeance by Judas Priest. And Ace of Spades my Motorhead.

Classical music is epic. Nothing about that needs to change.

I have to agree with Tim on this one, Nickleback is not the definition of "epic."

We have still have plenty of artists who are making music that just strike chords with so many people. I agree that music taste is subjective, but epic is one of those descriptions that needs a certain level of musicality to fit.

I can't even think of many artists I would consider epic, but here's a few that do or at least come close.

Porcupine Tree
Nine Inch Nails
Coheed and Cambria
Steven Wilson
Between The Buried and Me
Radiohead
Sigur Ros
Rush
Dream Theater

Are these bands/artists epic by everyone's standards? No. But to me they are.
